Might CC react to this with Rush Radio 106.1? :)

I don't know - hard to do without Rush himself, wouldn't it? ::)

CC set up FM talkers in Pittsburgh (WPGB) and New Orleans (WRNO) several months before yanking Rush away from his established affiliates (KDKA and WWL, respectively). WRNO's on-air positioner was "NewsTalk995.com" before acquiring Rush; the weekend beforehand, they stunted by playing "A.O. My City Was Gone" and taking the "Rush Radio" handle.

Did WPGB and WRNO yank Rush away from KDKA and WWL before his contract with the latter stations was up? ???

Premiere canceled both contracts outright.

Premiere/CC yanked Rush (and Beck, Coast to Coast, Cunningham) from WRKO to launch their Rush
Radio 1200 WXKS (Boston) last March. Forget when their Rush contract was to end but the
deed was soon done.

If Premiere could cancel contracts with KDKA, WWL and WRKO before they were due to expire, they could do the same with WPHT to launch Rush Radio in Philly. All CC has to ask themselves is which Philly FM are they going to blow up to do it. :)

In Michael Klein's Inquirer article today, some interesting "factoids":

Spokesmen for Clear Channel and Greater Media both say they have no plans to launch a new talk station in Philly (not that a quote to a newspaper columnist holds them to anything).
Station officials from WNTP (Salem) and WHAT didn't return calls to Klein.
Premiere needs Philly clearance of Beck and Hannity to fulfill national ad contracts (shows must be cleared in the top ten markets to get their ad rates).

Either someone at Clear Channel and/or Greater Media are lying, or Salem might be picking up the shows, or WHAT could be changing to a talk format.

If CC is telling the truth, the only possibility that makes sense is Salem's WNTP. They're the only station that has a decent enough signal to accommodate Beck and Hannity for their advertisers. That would eliminate WHAT. Then again who knows? Only CC and Premiere know for sure what's going to happen! :)

Remember earlier this year when WPHT brought in Hannity for a couple of live events? (They also brought in Rush too, for a night at the Kimmel Center.) I wonder if the turnout for those events factored into CBS' decision to drop Hannity in Philadelphia somewhat.
