Shallco Pots

There are a few pots on my Stereo Gatesway 80 that are L-R intermittent while rotating near the cue switch, some of them have a low audio leak @ zero. Looking to the pots they're build like tanks, I thing they need a nice contact spray blow but I don't know how to open (if possible) the pots. They seem to have a screwed (literally) cover wich I turn strongly with no effect.
Are those pots sealed?

Most of these pots have a small push tab that must be depressed to permit the cover to be removed. The leak at zero is probably a mal adjusted wiper assembly, whic you probably see see with a visual check, one the back is off. Don't force
anything, if properly done, this is not necessary.

I took your advice but seeing closely the pots there was no push tab at all. Perhaps a different model. So, I turned the cap and felt the cap coming out, so I gently forced and opened it. This evening I'll give them a clean.

The stepped pots I am familiar with, from another lifetime ;) were made by Daven. Daven made a special lubricating oil called, oddly enough, "Daven Oil."

Not sure what it was made of (these days I'd suspect something carcinogenic) but whatever it was, it worked to make pots operate both mechanically smoother and electrically quieter.

IIRC, it was a bit lighter than standard 3-in-One oil, but heavier than WD-40.

Kind Regards,
David
