Shame on Sirius

I still can not believe what Sirius is doing , dropping REMIX 62 is one of the stupidest moves yet, why do have to take a channel that is so popular , why can’t they take away one of the 16 ROCK channels,
10 the bridge- mellow rock
14 classic vinyl - classic rock
15 classic rewind -classic rock
16 the vault- classic rock
17 jam on - jam bands
18 the spectrum - adult album rock
19 buzz saw- classic rock
20 octanes - pure hard rock
21 alt nation- alternative rocks
22 1st waves - classic alternative
23 hair nation - 80’s hair bands
24 Sirius disorder- free form
25 underground garage - garage rock
26 left of center - college rock
27 hard attack - heavy metal
28 faction - punk hard rock

And let’s not forget that all the decade channels play most of the music on all the station above. And what about the all Elvis & rolling stones channels, what a waist of space.
From what I under stand they are removing SWING STREET as well, there is no other station on the system like SWING STREET, so the big wigs at SIRIUS will take that away , but to have 4 classic rock station playing pretty much the same stuff does not make any sense to me at all.. SIRIUS needs to throw their logo out the door
( RADIO THE WAY YOU WANT IT) that’s a bunch of bull, and for anyone who says if ya don’t like it cancel it, well wish I could, I just renewed it in July, so I have a whole year on my 3 units.

Call them and cancel your service and get a refund, be sure to tell them that you are completely dissatisfied with the stinking channel line up!

Yeah, surely Sirius, as a company in the business of satellite radio is going to cancel a popular station just to annoy it's customers

Get over it. No one is listening. I hate to break ur heart mate but that style of music just isn't that popular.

And when you cancel, mention it. Cause no one listens to Rock music.

I still can not believe what Sirius is doing , dropping

Probably because the rock channels are doing better than Remix and Swing Street... Let's be realistic for a second. Sirius almost certainly knew they'd lose some subscribers over this move, and I doubt this decision was made haphazardly. Sirius is a business and is trying to get as many subscribers as possible. It probably did some research to find out what channels to air and what channels to drop, and Remix and Swing Street probably had fewer listeners than any of the rock channels. So, they were dropped, and Sirius is trying to create other channels that its research shows will attract more listeners. Sirius may be making a mistake, and it will find out in time. However, it was probably, if nothing else, a well researched mistake. There are plenty of those in the history of modern day business. New Coke comes to mind very quickly.

Why can't you? The way I understand it is that these block subscriptions are not contracts. However, I'd recommend you check your customer agreement, especially the fine print, to make sure.

Let's not compare Remix and the rock channels, because of course we know the rock channels have more listeners then the dance channels (though I bet not as much as you'd think). I don't have so much of a problem with one of the dance channels being axed, it was the fact that they got rid of the most popular one. Don't tell me they did research. They didn't. The guy who is in charge of the dance channels, Liquid Todd, personally programs Boombox and Chill. They are his creations. I'm sure corporate told him to pick a dance channel to go, and you can bet he wasn't going to pick one of his babies...so he choose Remix. Remix was easily the most popular dance channel. So instead of getting rid of Boombox or Chill, two niche stations that sparked very little interest (especially Boombox) he chose to get rid of Remix....and now there is only two actual dance stations in the dance category.

That's exactly my point.

Sorry, but I'm just not buying that there was no thought and pure ego in this decision. I've never seen corporate anywhere tell a manager, "Change a format. We don't care which station, just do it!" There's always some logic based on something concrete, whether good or faulty, that dictates a change. If corporate really did allow a programmer to just make a haphazard decision, the powers that be need to be called into the boardroom and fired.

Typical rock head.

Not everyone likes rock but Sirus tries to force it on you. They remove channels from other formats like Dacne which needs more channels not less to add to rock which has every format under the sun just to add more. The rate it is going in 5 years there will be 40 channels of rock and less of the rest of the formats.

Actually, from my understanding, Rolling Stones radio is not permanent...

I think they should combine the 4 classic rock streams and the 2 alternitive streams.Combine Area 63 and The Beat. Combine Octane, Hard Attack, and Hair Nation.Combine Wax and Boombox.
My Rock Lineup would be:
14 - The Bridge
15 - Underground Garage
16 - Left and Center
17 - Jam On
18 - The Spectrum
19 - Classic Rock (1965-1985)
20 - Modern Rock (1985-Present)
21 - Hard Rock (1965-Present)

My Dance Lineup would be:
32 - Remix (New lineup)
33 - Boombox
34 - The Strobe
36 - The Beat Club Hits (New Format)
Edited by ROBGv1 on 09/01/05 08:07 PM.

Re: Typical rock head.

Force what on you. You make a purchase, you're aware what you buy. You did read the channel list before you put down the money. You do realize you can cancel your service, right.

Sirius will put up channels that attract listeners. Welcome to reality. That's *gasp* how business works.

At least you still have Area 63, and The Beat for Pure Dance music. Plus, you have BBC Radio One, With its (DANCE-Top 40 format) during the day, as well as weekend and late night DANCE specialty shows, not to mention how much Electronica gets mixed into the Night Time shows, yet usually rock leaned. I find the Dance (Friendly) stations, that also play CHR music, more interesting to listen to. I am a huge Dance Fan, but even I get sick of the same old 4/4 beat, with the same repetative HI-Hats. I mean, if I spend 6 hrs in a Dance Club, with beats pounding nonstop, Im probably not gonna listen to Another Non-Stop Dance Mix on the Drive home, because usually by then, my head fricken hurts.

MP3 Question

By the way, in my single clubbing days I would play Hard Rock. After hours 4/4 I would listen to Smooth Jazz on the way home.

OK, Question: It seem that Sirius is becoming an unreliable source for Dance Music. Would it be better to buy an MP3 player with an FM transmitter and join a subscription service lke Yahoo! Music? Their ad shows a monthly charge of $4.99/mo.

Re: MP3 Question

Sirius isnt just going to close their eyes and pick a channel to drop. More than likely they did some research and found your remix channel was not doing so well. Why keep something going if you can get rid of it and make something else better? And for the record all the rock channels have something different to offer. I bought my Sirius for the fact of Stern, NFL, NBA, and all of the options of Rock music. I'm sorry you are losing a channel that you enjoyed so much. Before you get pissed and get rid of your subscription take a look at all the options available in your Sirius service. Hell when they made the announcement of Margaritaville I thought I would never tune in to a Jimmy Buffet station but anymore I'm always tuning it in. You would be surprised at what you might enjoy in you Sirius service.

SiriusBackstage.com

It was easily the most discussed dance station, and polls were taken showing it as the favorite dance station.

And the way you know this is......how, exactly?

My response to your incredible (i.e., preposterous) statement(s) goes way beyond "I wish I had some of whatever it is you're smoking" -- more like, "Where the hell did you get that LSD"?? You really ought to be careful, whatever it is, it's obviously affecting your cognitive processes.........
