SHAMROCK'S NEW RENO CLUSTER

Any guesses as to what Shamrock will put on their four new Reno rimshots?

105.3 KRZQ / Fallon (probably Alternative as the previous KRZQ 100.9)
104.1 KZZD / Fallon
106.3 KZHD / Lovelock
107.3 KEHD / Fernley

Plus there are 3 or 4 AM CP's in the Reno / Sparks area waiting to get built, not to mention Nevada's overall stalled economy.

How will this affect what already seems to be an overcrowded radio market?

These won't be rimshots for long...each of them has a CP for some pretty powerful booster signals in the Truckee Meadows proper which should give excellent coverage in the metro.

If they're like the other Reno cluster that is not Lotus (Wilks).. they'll hire children who don't care what you pay them for drive time slots.

Any update on these signals? I live in Vegas and not able to hear them. Are the signals city grade? Have they put signals on them yet? In any event, it's nice to get some Reno action on this board. Normally it's all about Vegas.

I mean, have they put programming on them yet...?

How is that going to work? Are they buying stations? I can't imagine that's there is enough room on the dial for more "move-ins" without being very limited signals that wouldn't properly cover the market.

No, I don't see that by viewing this site. It doesn't even have any mention or logos of their brands. Does the average listener know or care about the brands Cumulus, Emmis, or even Clear Channel? Nope. So why would they care about Shamrock? Listeners care about the actual station and the music they play. Does this mean that they still do not have brands to promote? Sorry, I'm in Vegas and not able to turn on these stations to hear what they're doing.

Don't worry about hearing them in Vegas....they're signing on in the Las Vegas market next year.

Hey...you gotta give em credit. At least they are giving the impression that they are interested in what the public wants, and its a lot cheaper than hiring some bigwig consultant from LA to figure it out for them ;D

The new station they will get in LV is 106.1. Wouldn't be surprised if they buy or LMA 103.1 which is co-located on the same spot with 106.1 The big question is, especially in Reno, can the market support all these new stations coming in at once? Reno has been hit much harder with the downturn in the economy than Las Vegas, as I see it. Sorta looked like Reno was a ghost town compared to LV, which just seemed to lose some conventions mostly.

@radiodxrichmond - thanks for the positive spin. I can tell you, putting up the generic website has nothing to do with saving money. We have done extensive market studies over the past few years and we have our own ideas on format positions that would fit in the market, but yes, we are VERY interested in what the public has to say. We have our ears to the street and are paying close attention to the disenfranchised. Our company has made a significant investment in this market and will be committed to become a valuable asset to the community. Feel free to register on the website and share your opinions.

@RadioPunk - The website is not about the Shamrock brand, Of course that means nothing to this market, nor to you in Las Vegas, yet. We hope to excite radio listeners, engage the disenfranchised and reinvigorate the market. The generic website is our first way to reach out to the public, since we don't have stations on the air yet. I have many years of history in radio, and never have I had such an opportunity to build it right from the beginning (x4). Feel free to continue to be jaded, all I ask is for everyone who is reading this board to give us a chance and open your minds.

If you register on the website, myrenoradio.com, you will be updated as to the status of what the listenrs are saying, what we are doing and when. I will not address any further questions on this board. Thanks for hearing me out.

Willobee, you are correct and I apologize. I simply did not know that you hadn't already launched stations in Reno. So it makes sense that you didn't include logos of your future brands. I wish you the best of luck in Reno and I'm looking forward to what you may have in store for Vegas down the road.

Much appreciated. I sure hope the market likes what we do. We are putting a lot of thought and hard work into this market.

Tack on the 106.1 Armagosa, NV ticket. Although I don't think it will ever get built out. Good move swooping that one up though. The frequency change doesn't hurt either.

I have heard the 104.1 signal in E Sparks up Pyramid they branded 70's 80's The Sound not disco but Old AC maybe AAA

The weird thing is the signal would come on and off a lot. On air Off air. haven't heard much of them lately

Heck I would love a chance to run that station and give 96.5 100.9 heck even 102.9 a Run for their money. I would put Hot AC Leaning Dance not to popish. Technically the right blend

Actually listen to the listeners, heck I remember in the old days of Hot 99.7 in San Jose (born and raised bay area) the old PD would go to the laundromat with quarters and help the listeners and take their feedback seriously.

That is what radio needs today local people who care No more Ryan SeaCRAP Kidd CRAPIT in the morning etc. also If I wanted nothing but music playing the same 30 songs I have an iPod

be out in the street community etc. yeah it takes money and yeah its cheaper to Voicetrack but honestly thats the reason why I don't listen to local radio I have a smartphone and Aux In on my car.

Word on the street is that 107.3 is going News/Talk. The new KNEZ call letters seem to back that up. And 106.3 just got KWNZ, which point to Top 40. As mentioned earlier, the calls KRZQ on 105.3 point to Alt Rock. So I guess 104.1 seems to be the only mystery. Perhaps they will go with "The Sound"...?

Slow and steady wins the race... Right? ::)

As of 10/19/12, the 107.3 signal is on the air. Good strength into Reno, currently they are stunting w/ all Michael Jackson tunes.

It's called "The King Of Pop Radio".

105.3 & 106.3 not yet on-air.

104.1 has been airing a classical format for months.
