Shapes of Things to Come?

As we sit on the cusp of major cuts at Clear Channel, with Citadel, CBS, and others likely to follow, it might be instructive to take a look at what happens when corporate dictates cuts without regard to local conditions...

"Slick" Tom Tiberi gets whacked at 97-Rock. Let's see what happened to the 7-midnight numbers on what has been the highest rated Classic Rock station in the nation:

25-54 Men: 97-Rock sinks to #4 in the market, with HALF of the shares that they had in the last book.

35-64 Men: 97-Rock sinks to #3 in the market, down 5.0 shares from what they had in the last book.

I'm sure that Citadel will be realizing so much in "savings" that profits will increase despite the decreased revenue, right?

Yeah, and monkeys will fly out of Farid's butt at noon today as he watches the inauguration.
 
It's too bad we don't have access to the revenue numbers. I'd like to see a continuing correlation between ratings and revenue. No doubt it would be skewed by the economy a bit. Are many of these cuts actually making sense? My guess is no.

These are examples of corporate anorexia--the belief that the more you lose, the healthier and better looking you are, so you cut beyond fat to the point you endanger muscle and bone.

I can think of no example of a company in any line of business anywhere in North America that did this and stayed even close to healthy...and many that lost their market, their revenue and their value, and died.
