Shared-Time Cable Channels

JeffM, was that the late 1990s "International Channel", later AZN TV? Or was it that "World International Network" you described about in the syndicated TV boards? I remember The International Channel. They aired "Pillipinas, Game KNB?" a lot - a Filipino game show that in its first season, looked much like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire here in the states.

AZN and International Channel were the same things indeed. I remember how awesome IC was with their mix of Asian and eastern European programming, along with the Filipino newscasts (man, I still miss the badly dubbed Saturday-night Cantonese Martial Arts films) before Comcast bought it and focused grouped it into AZN, which was pretty much a poor 'Asian MTV' attempt with no-effort original programming when Comcast's network management skills were just terrible (think G4 when it started...or don't). Now these days, getting content like that means paying $15 a month for an ethnic block (I do that for the Spanish package mainly for soccer and oddly, cricket), or trying to figure out foreign streaming.

Found some more early satellite transponder assignment lists.

This is obviously from the first half of 1985, after ARTS & The Entertainment Channel merged, as they are listed as Arts & Entertainment, still sharing Satcom F3 transponder 1 with Nickelodeon in addition to full-time on Westar 5 transponder 23:

ESPN3 has been carrying quite a bit of cricket online this year. Guess there must be a decent viewer base for it among West Indians and folks from the Asian Subcontinent living here, along with any expat Brits, Aussies and South Africans. It's all in English, as I assume the cable cricket channel is.

I've heard tell that just about any foreign sporting event you'd want to see is available on any number of offshore streaming sites. Not that I'd ever use them myself, mind you, just heard tell of them...

Remember CBS Cable?

CBS Cable as I recall came on at about 4 p.m. Pacific Time...which I recall did its own channel sharing...

I also remember when WarnerAmex's Nickelodeon went off the air on the west coast at 6 p.m. and then when encrypted for their "The Movie Channel."

Comcast River Falls-Hudson WI (St Croix County - Minneapolis DMA)
WQOW-ABC (6) and WEAU-NBC (18) are the only Wisconsin stations carried, and they're shared with Educational Access channels. This is quite common in fringe areas where out-of-market stations are shared with other channels (PEG/leased access, home shopping, etc.).

When I had Warner QUBE (way back in the 80's) we had a channel that split time between
WOR and WUAB. At some point they just dropped WUAB completely and it became WOR full time.

I think they also shared FNN with some home shopping channel and Nickelodeon with A&E
(in the days before they aired Nick at Nite or anything else after 7PM.)

Years ago (probably 20 or more; I barely remember this), PASS (Fox Sports Detroit's predecessor) and CMT used to share channel 35 in Manistee. Around the time PASS "became" FSD, both went full time, with FSD on 35 (where it still is) and CMT on 56. Slightly more recently, Grand Rapids had WKBD and C-SPAN2 sharing channel 18 (before WXSP signed on).
