Sharks re-up with KUFX

With KUFX being one of the stations in the Aloha trust to be sold by CC, how can they agree on a multi-year contract? What is the time frame that KUFX must be sold according the the DoJ?

Does KUFX always stream the Sharks games on their website? I had thought the games were blacked out, but recently, after fighting the weak FM signal at my home, I tried the website, not really expecting the game to be there, but it was. Does it depend on sell-out or not at the Arena, or something else? KUFX comes in "OK" (in my car) in most places but really poorly (unlistenable) in North Berkeley.

I don't think that the NHL has the same exclusivity rules that Major League Baseball does. I know that KHTK/1140 in Sacramento carried the Sharks last season, but many of the games were "broadcast" only on their KHTK.com website, so there has to be some level of permission involved at the team (or league) level.

The Missus mentioned this morning that KTVU (Channel 2) is running a spot with Dan Rusanowsky in the Sharks locker room, asking Joe Thornton what the key to the Sharks' success is. (Answer: Van Halen.)

Rusanowsky then turns to Dan Boyle with the same question, and gets the same response.

He then moves over to the team's "rookie goaltender" (in full goalie gear) with the same query. The "goalie" flips up his mask and, lo and behold, it's the one and only Greg Kihn! You can guess what his answer is.

I think this is a solid indication that K-Fox is in Clear Channel's stable forever and always -- I don't think that the Sharks would have put all their long-term radio eggs in the K-Fox basket without a 100% guarantee that things are not going to change at any point.

so does this mean CC is gonna spring to re-hire Kihn's producer? ;) I still don't understand why CC didn't just simulcast K-FOX on 103.7 in SF instead of creating "The Band".

CC has said recently that they want to concentrate on larger markets, and San Jose didn't fit that philosophy. Hence those stations went to the trust. But I still can't see them keeping KKGN or KNEW and giving up KUFX or KSJO to allow for that. I mean - San Jose has a greater population than San Francisco, right?

Maybe KYLD should start airing Warriors games beginning next season? They need a solid FM station to air their games.

Can CC do that switch stations to be sold, seems like in addition to KKGN and KNEW they still need to sell one FM whether it's a San Jose Station or a San Francisco station.

Yeah, come to think of it - I believe you're right. The rule is eight stations, but I think you can only have so many AM's and so many FM's. I can't remember for sure what it is tho.

No more than 5 on either AM or FM.
