SHARPE 550 FYI

Former KTAR/Phoenix morning host Jim Sharpe on Aug. 1 will join crosstown KFYI as a morning field reporter and member of "The Investigators."

IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HEAR JIM FOR A COUPLE HOURS ON THE WEEKEND AS WELL

Great to see that Sharpe will be back on the air in the Valley. Wasn't he on KFYI doing mornings with Heidi Fogelsong? I think it was him, I had just arrived in Phoenix when Jim & Melissa moved to KTAR.

Yes indeedy! The Sharpster & Heidi were the first morning team on KFYI when it was moved from 9-10 to 5-Fifty. He left for "greener pastures" and a shot at hosting the morning show with his wife at KT'R. They sounded pretty good together, but then Melissa wandered off the beaten path and the rest is his-twah. Meanwhile the KFYI blonde haired programming nymph made a big mistake by hiring Bill Heywood to co-host with Heidi. Their show was best described by Nurse Jeff several years ago when he said "...ZZZZZZZZ". Took the nymph a while to realize you can't beat KT'R in AMD by sounding just as stiff as they do. Heywood was jettisoned and the celebral Brue Jacobs took over the slot, sans Heidi. Back at the Big 6-20, Emmis was getting tired to sucking hind tit to KFYI, so the Brain Trust sold to the guys in secret underwear. Sharpe wasn't part of their plans (they wanted to sound boring again) and he left. Now after several months, Jim Sharpe is back..tanned..rested and ready to work for KFYI again. Great lesson in why burning bridges isn't a good policy!

WAS IT A MISTAKE TO MOVE KFYI OFF OF 910 ?

Only if you were one of the three listeners of KGME at 5-Fifty. This is the best use of that killer freq since the glory days of "Fifty Five Phoenix, KOY"

Ahh yes. Heywood in the morning on fifty five phoenix K-O WHYYYYY. At least we can still get that much needed Heywood fix every time we hear a Mel Clayton Ford spot. Oh yeah, there's KFNN.

Not when you consider the nighttime signal of 910.
______________

I THINK THE 550 SIGNAL SOUNDS LIKE GARBAGE DAYTIME (5KW) & NIGHT (1KW) ND.

910, 5KW DAY / 5KW NIGHT (DIRECTIONAL) STILL HAS GOOD COVERAGE.

I'LL HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND ONE NIGHT AND SIGNAL CHECK 910. IIRC, IT SEEMED LIKE I WAS LISTENING TO PHIL HENDRIE LOUD & CLEAR, WHILE TRYING TO PULL ART BELL THROUGH LOTS O NOISE. ?

ANYWAYS,

BACK TO JIM SHARPE..

HAPPY WEDDING !

Clean out your ears and turn off the caps lock. There's a reason the slogan at 55KOY once was "covering Arizona like the sun" - 5 gallons at 550 goes places, and the 1kw non-d easily covers the metro at night.

You can't hear 910 in Tempe/Mesa/Scottsdale after dark. You can hear 550 there.
______________

Re: 550 FYI

Oh God, now I have the ultra white, ultra schmaltzy musical jingle "55 Phoenix, K oh Whyyyyyyyyyyyy" stuck in my head, its still better than the treacly KBBC ones though.
