O.K. so the battered body of WWE star Shawn Michaels was to have been injured with a career threatening eye injury. Then he makes a great hoo ha about possible retirement because the doctors feel he may need to walk away. Said he would listen to the docs. Docs told him to step down. His wife gets punched in the face so to avenge her he accepts a lights out match against Jericho. Defeats Jericho. Walk away yet? No.
As of last night he is now in a Ladder Match against Jericho for the belt this time.
I thought you were hurt Shawn? :D
 
The whole thing was an insult to people who have had actual eye injuries. My friend took a racquetball to the eye last year, and let's just say you can look at the eye and tell its just not right. With the type of injury Michaels was alledged to have, there would still be visible and highly noticable damge to the eye. All Michaels has been doing has been squinting. Maybe he had a serious cut, and it's possible that there was some sort of damage done to the orbital bone, but his actual eyeball is fine, you can tell by looking.

Wouldn't that be the case of all worked wrestling injuries or injuries in other forms of entertainment though? I don't see how it is insulting at all.

...kinda like the World Class angle of the mid-'80s that had "Handsome Halfbreed" Gino Hernandez "blinding" Gentleman Chris Adams, in order to set up an intensified feud a few months down the line. Adams simply taped an angle piece, took the bandages off his eyes and went back to England for a couple of months. The feud stopped there, because Hernandez died of a cocaine OD between that match and his next scheduled card...
 
Yeah, that's a great example of one. Also Sandman and Tommy Dreamer did one in ECW's early days as well. Sandman stayed in his apartment for weeks allegedly selling the angle.
