SHAWN TEMPESTA RHODE SHOW FINALIST

someplacesomewhere said:
I thought ProFm was a sponsor, eliminating Citadel employees from competing...

Tony Bristol is one of the judges and PRO-FM had some video on there website about the competition. I don't know if that qualifies Citadel as a sponsor. I'm sure Tony doesn't have the only say. If you go to youtube you'll see a number of videos. Jessica interviewed Shawn but the other contestants have equal time. If you type in Shawn Tempesta you'll see some video where he entered a competition to get a traffic reporter job. I wish him well but does he just travel around the country entering contests to get media jobs? I've heard him and he's a good jock but I'm surprised no PD hasn't curtailed his talking a little as he does go on.

What is the Rhode Show contest? Do you get a segment on 12 or something?

And how is ProFM in the mix?

;D This is a great day! I am actually being mentioned on R-I...and not about a layoff!

First off, "The Rhode Show" is a daily morning show (think local Today-esque show)... and the winner of the competition is the legitimate co-host of the show (3 hosts on the show). I actually did not know about the competition until a listener (Geoff The DIT) called me and told me I should try out...so I did!

The contest is being promoted through 92 Pro FM. All of the contestants were given an hour on-air with Gio and Kim, all were interviewed post-show by Jessica...

Now as far as there being any un-fairness with Tony Bristol being on the initial panel of judges, I can assure you that of all the emails and packages I've sent to Pro FM (I used to hand-deliver my stuff to Wampanoag Trail to confirm it got there safely), I have never so much as gotten an interview there. If anything, Tony being on the judging panel may have hurt my chances as I've been a true pain in the past. HAHA

While in Las Vegas working as PT Onair/Webmaster at CBS Radio, I entered a Traffic Reporter position and made the top 5 there as well (actually won the internet vote, but they wanted a female in the position so, alas, no gig)! As a matter of fact, when I was 16 I entered and won an open audition for "Kids Talk Sports" on New England Cable News!

I do not go from place to place looking for gigs, BUT I know how the television industry works. I've seen friends move to the nether-regions of America in order to get a gig that pays $15k. Although I am not against making a move such as that, why not take a crack at something that will keep me around home?! As a matter of fact, Stephen (one of the other finalists in the contest) passed up a gig in Nebraska in order to compete in this contest. It is too big of an opportunity to pass up. This is a gig that could easily launch an on-air television career.

And as far as my being long-winded...I can out-talk every person on this board. No question. BUT, you'll never hear me stop the music to get a long break out. I've been lucky enough to work for PD's like Chris Ialuna (WLNH), JayBeau Jones (WBMX), JR Reitz (WFHN) and Justin Chase (KMXB) who have helped craft me from an over-pukey, talk-too-much jock, to a somewhat pukey, talk-somewhat jock. ;)

Well..now that I'm here, check out the videos and, if you feel I am competent vote for me at http://www.wpri.com/generic/entertainment/ent_other_3/the_rhode_show! Results show is December 16th!

Thanks everybody! :)

Ugh... tell me about it. Wow... another self-involved 20-something who thinks the world cares about their opinion.

Maybe they are, but the funny thing is reading that IS like having a conversation with him....ALL OVER THE PLACE AT FULL SPEED....too much for me

I am very surprised at the responses on this thread. It disturbs me that some of you are discouraging a talented, positive on-air personality for pursuing career opportunities. It's my opininion that when Shawn was at Fun107, he had the best shift compared to anyone in that market, as well as in Providence. As far as going on and on and on, Shawn is right, he keeps his show going, in a positive way. I would at least welcome examples from his shows that you remember where he went "on and on". Making a general statement in my mind doesn't hold up or stand to be true without backing. Shawn is the type of person that will some day end up hosting a show in a MAJOR market, and in order to do that, he is willing to take chances and work as many hours if needed. That is just the type of worker he is.

You might be right to an extent Telefunken but there are only so many PDs who want a jock who makes Robby Bridges sound like an introvert. When and if PPM ever arrives around here there's going to be some serious gagging of jocks outside of morning drive and those gagged will never believe the reasons why regardless of what PPM results have shown.

To be fair, like I said, Shawn is a good jock. Careerwise in this day and age most PDs don't want a high profile personality so getting a job that will display your talents can be hard. Even in CHR radio where there used to be more creativity and personality it just isn't there. On the other hand if you do find the right station it will probably be a job you actually enjoy and probably in a bigger market. I will say though that you can't do a show to please yourself and do every break from the point of view of getting a great aircheck. Hopefully TV will work out for Shawn because radio will be a long hard battle when it comes to finding the right place. Look at Jackson Blue who is high profile. He ended up moving to Dallas and KISS in Boston has become a wasteland.

92-PRO-FM is one of the sponsors of this Rhode Show TV Show search. Their logo appears at the end of the spot along with the other sponsors.
Shawn is an employee of Citadel. Tony Bristol is an employee of Citadel. I think Tony should remove himself from judging another Citadel employee.
If they want this whole "contest" to be fair. Its the right thing to do.

Do you guys really think Tony Bristol is going to decide who gets this job at WNAC? Ultimately the decision will be made by the TV station. Everything else is cross promotion. If Tony were making the decision Davey Morris would get the job.

I think if Tony was a Tempesta fan, he'd have him doing weekends on Pro... not on Fun.

Luckily it'll be mornings on Fox 64... no one will see it anyway.

Mr. Bristol isn't responsive to anyone that approaches him first about a shift. The only people that can get into 1502 is if he picks them himself. He has had talent go all the way down there to "see what they look like". Perhaps if he chose jocks based on their personality and not looks, Pro would sound as it did back in the day.
