Shaws lust be so proud

Could this have been the worst moment in Boston radio over the past ten years?

Glen Gefner interviewing a seven year-old Yankees fan that won a Shaw's contest and got to speak on the radio yesterday. Any questions about Gefner's talent can now be put to rest. It was an uncomfortable moment for all involved, made Shaws, the Red Sox and WRKO look bad and most importanly; took away from the ball game.

And to make matters worst, the kid, when he would actually speak, had better pipes than Gefner. Way to go, RKO!

PS: There is a typo in the Subject line, but face it, that is why most of your read it, isn't it? ;D

Thought it was funny that the kid's family were not Sox fans.. The kid did a good job getting the names out. That whole thing sounded very awkward and uncomfortable indeed. What is Geffner's broadcasting experience ? He sounds very green on the air.

On the job training ::)

McRadio uses McJob training techniques. Film at 11.

I heard that--yeah it was a bit of an awkward moment with the kid, plus the family being all
Yankee fans...

Tonight I went to New Britain CT and saw the Rock Cats defeat the Portland Sea Dogs 7-5 at
N.B. Stadium. Have been there 2 or 3 other times. What was interesting was what was happening
at Fenway: a 23 year old pitching his second ML game and having a no-hitter going. It was
former Sea Dog Clay Bucholz. As the game went on I went back and forth between Dogs & Cats
on WDRC 1360 (other stations in background if radio was held in a certain position!) and the Sox
on WTIC 1080. The PA announcer did mention that Clay had a no-no going and I told fans near
me I'd tell them what was going on.

Plus some TVs in the suite level were tuned to the Sox game. The moment happened and I
yelled out "He got the no hitter!" Many in the stands were Portland fans btw, or at least cheering
for them because they're a Sox farm club.
Anyway, I heard Joe C. say at one point "Glenn has gone down into the locker room in case
we need to talk to Clay" and I thought thank God! The "call" will be done by Joe C. and not Glenn!
I think he prob would have done the 9th anyway, but still.

And nice fireworks after the New Britain game, btw.

Were Joe's partner is nominal unknown year to year right now, I think its in RKOs best interest to have Joe calling any at bat where history could be made. If Glen or Dave gets that call, its possible that they can't use that next year in the billboard opens for the first few weeks atleast of a young season were nothing really happened.

If it is true 'history' being made, the announcer wouldn't matter. I'm sure RKO, or any station for that matter, would still use it. The age of meta-journalism is over, we can hope.

I think by now we got the point that you aren't happy with this broadcaster....i understand it, i think people understand it....how about you tell us what the sox and RKO should do at this point in the season

Its so easy for people to sit here and dictate how THEY think things should be done....i don't think the sox disliked the team they had before. I'm sure there are plenty of reasons that WE don't know about as to why that isn't happening. So think about things before you bark out suggestions and remarks about the current broadcasters. I have an even better idea, how about giving them a season or two to improve. Listen to Remy in his early years, he isn't anything like today

Yeah, but this kid really should have spent more time in the minors before coming to the big league. Why would a first rate team hire a second rate broadcaster?

Maybe it has something to do with $$$?

After all, Castiglione took a pay cut to join the Sox radio crew.

Someone PLEASE tell Geffner that Bobby Kielty's last name is pronounced KELL-ty, not KEEL-ty. Bobby said so to Tina Cervasio in an interview on NESN when he joined the team. Seems to me a VP of Communications would know these sorts of things.

Both Orsillo and Castiglione both avoided using the term "no hitter" last Saturday.

But not Glenn..........he must have said it 24 times during the 6th and 7th inning.

Please let Obie work the playoffs
