Sherman Hemsley has died

I just saw the news on Facebook...just wow :(

His "George Jefferson" was one of my all-time favorite TV characters, and is one of those few TV actors who had more than one successful series, of course the other being Amen (as Deacon Ernest Frye).

TV One had their regularly scheduled Jeffersons marathon today. I guess TV One will change their schedule for an all day marathon of Amen and Jeffersons in the next few days I guess.

Of course, Deacon Frye was pretty much George Jefferson's long-lost twin brother -- not a whole lot of difference in character/personality. (Which is not to say that Hemsley wasn't a delight to watch in both roles!)

DAMN, we're losing a lot of our old TV friends this year... :(

Dang, and I never got my cup of coffee or my thirty cents back from early 80s at O'Hare. Yep, he was running for coffee, while I sat with a gal with an attache case handcuffed to her wrist. He came back with his coffee and I never saw my 30 cents again. Imagine that...coffee for 30 cents. At O'Hare even.

I first saw his appearances on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air way before I ever saw an episode of The Jeffersons. He was very entertaining as a judge, then return later on as his famous character George Jefferson for a few episodes.

I couldn't agree more.

RIP

Sherman Hemsley probably comes closer than any other Black actor to the quality and humor of the old Amos 'n Andy actor Tim Moore ('Kingfish'). George Jefferson was more vocal and less visual than the old Kingfish but both were perfect in their respective roles and a lot of fun to watch.
