Sherri Sawyer

Very sad day. Sherri Sawyer died this morning. She was my boss, and the general manager for 4 stations in Memphis. She had been the GM for the Clear Channel stations, so all of Memphis radio is hurting today. We've known this day was coming for 5 years, but that doesn't take away any of the hurt. She was the first GM I ever worked for that truly "got it". I know I wouldn't be around today had it not been for her coming to my rescue on times I know i didn't deserve it. We at the American Cancer Society have so much to do. Time to get busy! Rest well Sherri.

Sorry to hear that. I had the privilege of working with and for Sherri at 103, and always enjoyed running into her at Ad Fed luncheons.

Sorry to say I didn't know her, but I know several people that did, and she was spoken of with high regard. I had a friend in San Diego that died of the same disease, and it was painful to witness. My sympathies to family and friends.

Sherri was my GM in Raleigh for a couple of years. She was a wonderful person who was very spiritual & kind. She was also one heckuva a GM. I send condolences to her family... as well as her radio family - the hundreds who mourn her & will miss her. I am sure she smiles kindly on all of us. She was a blessing to this world & if you knew her, she was a blessing to you as well.

In 1981 I had just been named GM of K97 and I began to search for a GSM. Sherri was a seller at WRVR but I learned from a few sources that she was interested in perhaps trying her wings in management. I offered her the job but she was a brand new mom and wasnt quite ready to make the step so it didnt happen. But as fate would have it, a few years later I was hired as GM of Rock 103 and Sherri was GSM when I arrived. During my time working with her she was without question the hardest working, most dedicated and committed manager I had ever been around. She was the best. When I left the station she was promoted to my position, a move I strongly supported. The industry is better for her time with us. My sympathies to Skip and the family on this sad loss.
