I think her anchoring a late newscast on 39 or any station in a major market is GREAT experience. Sherry now has that on her resume. KHOU was smart to sign her. She is a tenatious reporter and not afraid to confront anything or anyone. She has stones of steel and audiences like her. Most people don't know that she was a reporter at 26 before she went to 39. Before she left 26 she confronted the very arrogant and inexperienced new GM (Bebel) in a station meeting. In a reporter's tongue she ask Bebel if he were going to continue to put his own appearances and on TV and his continued attention being paid to African American causes ahead of running a large station. The entire room of over 150 people held their hands from clapping and cheering wildly. It was beautiful moment in company meeting lore. Sherry had apparantly already made the deal to go to 39 when that meeting took place so she had nothing to lose to confront Bebel in that forum. She most certainly would have been fired, but it was the most honest issue brought up in a meeting that was called to assure a concerned group of employees that the station would move forward in the wake of Jerry Marcus' (former KRIV GM for 25 years) retirement. Bebel, at the time, was beginning to dismantle a once great TV station that should have been left alone to continue doing great work in TV and the Houston community. Sherry, with her question, brought reality into the room. She will rock KHOU.
