SHERWOOD SCHWARTZ DIES AT 94

I could have sworn Sherwood Schwartz died year ago.

His legacy will continue to live on as somewhere in the world right now an episode of Gilligan's Island is airing.

I think that recent news item about Carol Brady sent him over the top... ::)

That's how I found out about it. After a "Gilligan's Island" episode, there was a notice of "In Memoration Of Sherwood Schwartz"

OK, Sherwood was a genius, no question. However, Gilligan was 10x more creative and funny than Brady. However, both were quality shows. Just seems Sherwood chose to take a safer road with Brady. Who knows what kind of network pressure he was under in this case. Again, not to diminish Brady, as a pre-teen I found myself watching this show EVERY Friday night. In fact, between the age of 7 and 12 I probably watched Gilligan and Brady more than any other shows. That says something.

Wasn't Schwartz involved to some degree in the reality show "The Real Gilligan's Island"? Is that still on? He will be missed.

cd

So should we expect an all day Brady's marathon this weekend on Me-TV? That's where the
bunch currently are at. LETS HOPE NOT.

I'd prefer a Gilligan marathon, but not sure if TVland has rights.

From the information I had, Schwartz basically wanted to do Gilligan's Island over again with Brady Bunch, but the pressure he got to "take a safer road" didn't come from the network. It came from Robert Reed, who was constantly at loggerheads with Schwartz over the direction of the show.

I'm sure that Me-TV will be making some "in memoriam" promos regarding Schwartz for this Sunday's two-hour "Brady Brunch."

Today's "TRI" newsletter said that Schwartz was involved in the development of a movie (oy vey) based on the show at the time of his passing.

I don't believe any network has the rights to Gilligan's Island, and it's been at least five years since TV Land last carried it. I'm not sure if Warner Brothers took the show of syndication or what, but AOL's In2TV service (I believe) still carries the show.

I didn't have any interest for the Brady Bunch, but I remember watching Gilligan's Island reruns a lot on TBS and Nick at Nite. It's been many years since I last watch any episodes or followed the show. So, I'm out of the loop on who has the broadcast rights now.

I think The Hallmark Channel was the last cable network to have the rights to GILLIGAN'S ISLAND after TV Land but it has been awhile.

"Gilligan", maybe. I heard somewhere that the proof Bob Denver was a talented actor was those dreams where he wasn't Gilligan.

I enjoyed both shows, but looking back, the movies that turned The Bradys into a parody may have been the only thing that made that a quality show. I just didn't know any better back then.

Here's a WikiPedia article on him & his legacy

BTW - It should also be noted that many of the Ozzie & Harriett Radio & TV shows are on the Internet archive. The TV episodes can be found here, here, here & here. Unfortunately, the Radio shows are scattered in too many places on the same site to list :(

Episodes of Dusty's Trail can also be found on the Internet Archive but they too are scattered :(

Cheers :D

Me-Too in Chicago has Gilligan's Island, other than that I don't know of any others.

I see Bob Denver in a lot of the old B-type westerns from time to time. That was his
job before Gilligan's Island. You can be across the room and not watching, but when
you hear that voice..............bam you know it's Denver. He's pretty convincing in
most of them and looks more beefy than he did on the island.

I'm suprised in his olden days he didn't do some cartoon voices. There was a Gilligan's
cartoon on at one time.
