Salem Communications' Christian AC satellite network returns to 105.9 in Louisville. The simulcast of WAY-FM has finally ended. The station is identified as Shine 105.9 and CC Matthews is the station manager. The call letters are WSYI and the website is located at www.shine1059.com. I wonder if this change will eventually affect WFBR-LP in Mount Washington.
WFBR-LP is running out of options for formats-at this point Radio U seems to be the the most viable CCM option, unless if EMF is willing to sign up a part-time affiliate for Air1 or K-Love. Radio U could also go after another fromer CHRSN affiliate, WXLN-LP in Shelbyville (although there is a bigger prize to be had there with 101.7).
Thanks for the link to the website. It looks like it's still under WAY Media, but I wonder if they plan on selling it back to Salem Communications? The website also says "listener supported" but each commercial break from the TCM Satellite feed is about 6 minutes!

Looks like the station is still OWNED by WAY Media ...
From Hisair.net
"WAY Media has launched a new format, Shine 105.9 FM, on WSYI/Louisville. CC Matthews has been hired as station manager. Matthews says the popularity of Christian music continues to grow. “Although the music is popular with both adults and kids, our target with Shine is Adults 35-54.” WAY Media Founder/President Augsburg stated, “With WAY Media operating two signals in the market and with 105.9 FM within the contours of the 93.9 signal, it made perfect sense to air a different format.” WAY-FM is now available exclusively on 93.9
WAY Media Chief Operating Officer Lloyd Parker added, “Our general manager in Louisville, Matt Hahn, has done a great job putting his team together in the market and running the operation. We are looking forward to seeing both WAY-FM and Shine grow in Louisville."
(This would be Way's first attempt at a pure AC format targetting 35-54 group) Will be interesting to see how well it does. Musically they would be targetting 88.5's listenership.)

Listening to WXLN, they seem to have set up a good format on their own with some syndicated shows and their own DJs...looks like one of them from the bio may be a contracted out person who does voice work. Not a bad setup and it's unique to their market. RadioU is not a good set up if you are trying to be a local station with your own identity and brand name, which most LPFM's are trying to be.
105.9's signal sounds pretty weak riding through WFBR's main coverage area - considerable amount of static if you drive through the town where WFBR is based. That's a bit odd because 105.9 did not used to be as weak as it sounds now. With it being that weak there, I doubt it reaches as well into Spencer, Hardin, and Nelson counties as WFBR can. Travelling north on I-65 once, I heard WFBR coming in pretty clear in E-town.
Is WSYI operating off the CP for 1.27 kilowatts, or is it still at 890 watts?
Also, WFBR and WSYI would give each other IF interference (95.3 + 10.7 = 106.0). I get the same phenomenon with 88.3 (Air1) and 98.9 (Radio Now) near the Tucker Lake area. I think WSYI may also be getting hit by WFPB/Middletown, OH or WNRQ/Nashville, as there are days when I can listen to those for several minutes at a time in Shelby County, and it seems to be a regular occurence this time of year.
Had a flight into Louie-Vull and popped by to congrats, C.C.... Both stations are sounding GREAT... Way is not scared to serve both audiences... Proud of them.. C.C. said Salem was surprised by the call to affiliate.. But then, it's good AC/Hot-AC in the CCM world... "Skip" an ol' Way-Fm'er...
That's ME.. The 'original' "Skipper T. Thomas" of "Rockinradio-'CIL-FM/Southern Illinois Favorite"..... Cheleuski with the 3 to 6 and my first hour did a 27 in the first Four County Book.... My last 2 hours and Matt McCann's 9 to midnight portion of the evening slot, had a 49... Can't get those, anymore.... Mackey still owned Rock-100 (99.9 WEBQ-FM) out of Harrisburg, in those days.. Always gave me free pizza from his joint, when visiting H'burg.... Love that area.. Would love to run a classics hits station in that market...
Skipper used to be on WRTB too. I just don't remember if this was the rock of Vincennes or the rock of Washington because I listened on both frequencies. I think you were on WHKC too at one time? Why not just post your resume?
Matt Mcann? Is he still alive? I know he can't really be that old.
CC is one of the best. I live where he ran "The New WIKS" post disco pre IndyZapple WZPL. I am glad he is contributing to a product he believes in with a mind with a rich background. And MO.
I still have to recall my favorite station of all time no one remembers. JJ 100. Louisville's JJ 100 was on the air two weeks until the blackaphobics decided it was too close to JJ Walker "Kid Dynomite" It took 2 weeks to re-sing the jingles and rename it, KJ 100.

Nope... Never at the CHR KC-103.... It was smokin', and "Skip" Jackson was the local Skip, as I was out of the market....I think that was his name.... KJ, am-fm with the repeat ten minutes off on the AM side (1080)..... Dennis was Sales Manager/Morning Guy, Dennis Lyle... He went on to buy 'CIL-FM, sell it and CEO the Illinois Broadcasters Association.. Last correspond, he is fine and in Herrin, IL..... My resume would be the 'minor league' tour of nice places to work.. Did not crack the top 30, but got close GM and Jocking in Columbus, Ohio for a few years... Life is GOOD in #62...
KJ 100. I was thrilled knowing 8 minutes later I was finally hearing what had been played on an FM Station. My 73 Nova only had the Delco AM radio with 5 preset buttons.
That was a really dumb think to have flipped kj-100 from chr to ac yuck!!!If they had not just think 99.7 wkjj would be 32 years old but djx ahs lot of heritage standing at 26 years of hits!!!I remember when chris randolph played rock me amadeus 43 times!!!
