SHINE ALL 9/WACO 99

I started my car the other day. As I waited for the engine oil to circulate, I hit the button I have for KSHN. I was getting 2 stations coming in at once. It turns out the KSHN and a station in Waco were mixing PERFECTLY together. I find this to be unusual. I have never experienced that before on FM. I always that would be impossible on FM.

During troop conditions WACO (Waco 100) signal carries a long ways southward

It really ruins shine all 9 for me, too, in far west Houston.

We had problems in Austin, too. Not with Shine All Nine or WACO-FM, but with 103.1 it was battling BOB 103.5, Comedy, Beat, and the usual suspect 98.9 on my Panasonic Walkman about 6:30pm or so.

When I tried to pick up KONO on 101.1 I get splatter from 96.7 along with 98.9 in Northwest Austin.

That points to a major problem with your radio. I have no problem at all with splatter, my biggest problem is with KLOL and WRR overriding them. There is always something on 101.1, most of the time it is KONO. Spanish language and classical don't mix well, so I gave up and went to 860 - it was much more reliable except under big power lines. That was with a factory car radio - I imagine a good Pioneer would be better.

Nope nothing is wrong with my radio, as I tried several, including my digital HD Radio. I do walk under power lines, and am nearby them so it could be that even though it's FM. That problem only occurs in Northwest Austin by Braker/Jollyville area. I can't pick up 860 on my NAD Tuner, I will have to invest in a good AM antenna for it. Right now both of my Pioneer Stereos are broken, one needs a new Audio panel, and the other one needs a new transformer (at $100) and that is my Pioneer Quadraphonic QX-949A which is more than I paid for it. When I have the time to mess through the huge jungle of wires, I will move my NAD tuner to my Sanyo Receiver. It's kind of cool, it's get a cable jack for FM input! bought it at Goodwill for $20.

That is pretty much where I was. My daughter's figure skating competition was in Cedar Park, we were all over the NW part of Austin. Not a problem in the world with images on 101.1 - just KLOL and WRR in spots. And 860 was solid all through the area, just definitely not strong as a local. Compared to fighting Spanish language splatter from KEYH when we are in Houston, it was a pleasure to listen to. I carry a Sony SRF-59 with me on trips, inside the Cedar Park center I couldn't get 860, but outside I got both 860 and 101.1 very well. I don't know what is going on in your case, perhaps you frequent areas where there is some funny reflection or crosstalk - there are some high tech companies around that might be doing something unusual. But I'd take the Austin reception on either KONO outlet any day - over the total garbage we have on Houston stations and KEYH splatter. You have it good with access to a real classic hits station, between that and KLBJ FM, Austin / San Antonio has some good stations. I don't know why Houston can't get it right. They used to.

This morning, I was having trouble getting KACC so I thought I'd check how KSHN was doing. At first, I thought KSHN was booming in, but then the announcer said "99.9 WACO". It was coming in like a local for most of my drive to the university, with KSHN occasionally interrupting.

I looked that thing up, and sure enough it is a monster:

That also explains why it was as strong in Plano, TX, as it is in Cypress - the distances are almost identical. Too bad the thing is country - it would be a welcome rim shot if it was oldies or something. Well, rim shot for those of us with Pioneer Supertuner 3D in the dash that is.
