Shoals swap status

101.5 has now flipped (or could be just testing) to V (still IDing as V-103.5)
100.3 is still WLAY but they ID as 103.5 WLAY every now and then (are they in a simulcast? I can't get 103.5 because of a translator over here in Huntsville) I did hear a moment of dead air on 100.3 just before I checked 101.5 again
______________

V is now ID'ing as V-101.5
WLAY is simulcasting on 100.3 as well as 103.5, and is now ID'ing as 103.5 WLAY
103.5 signal sounds strong but 101.5 sounds staticky at times ( I am 6 miles from the tower) . Could be that they are having problems getting their signal out to the transmitter from the studio.

I feel compelled to write the obit for WJOR as it was among the last of the red-hot local content stations still around. It was real-low budget for a while before CC bought them. I mean, who can forget the "Name the Spook" contest. Callers called in to guess which of the airstaff would be the spook of the moment (STEEEEEEVE!!!). They won a cookie or a roll of knitting thread or something hokey, but it got people listening. They did a lot of programming along the lines of trading posts, high school football, and bluegrass gospel, etc.

I understand change and all, but it is sad to see WJOR go.

101.5 comes in decently (with a 20ft high directional antenna on a rotator) over here, and it sounded horrible last night, definately could tell they were working on it with the volume going up and down, the balance going back and forth every so often and it was overall distorted and crappy. It is sad to see a small station like that go, 105.5 WYTM over here (actually in Fayetteville TN but it's local here too) is one of those, they still read the obituaries on the air and even shut down at 11pm (where WVNA will come in then)... and every day, you just wonder, how much longer can it last, before some corporation finds it, buys it, and kills it with a boring satellite feed. I got a little short capture of WJOR with half of a song, an announcement of the move, a quick commercial for something on the station, a jingle and the first few seconds of the next song.. only to have it on record.
______________

There were some really fine people at WJOR. I was Clear Channel's engineer in the Shoals when they first bought it.

The previous owners were very nice people, and the jocks were as well.

I remember showing Steve how to use Prophet when I installed their NexGen system. He was a hoot... I don't think he had ever used a mouse before. When I was showing him the system and teaching him how to use it, he kept picking the mouse up off the counter and dragging it through the air wondering why it didn't work!

Really nice people. Driving up to WJOR seemed like a hassle at the time, but I kinda miss that little station.
