Shock Jocks...

Opie said he and Norton will return next Monday to "figure this out" while Anthony said he's going to start his Live from the Compound show in August. Ant also tweeted his support for whatever Op and Jim decide.

If Howard wanted to be relevant again, he'd stand up for Anthony. I'm an avid listener of the show and Anthony for years has created the context for what many consider "racist." Too bad Patrice O'Neal isn't alive to defend his buddy.

There are several things lost here. Anthony was legally carrying a gun while being attacked, but resorted to social media instead of violence. He's literally stated what he tweeted on the air and Sirius either didn't care or just don't listen. It almost seems like fate because for MONTHS now, O&A have had a "contest" where they can't go 10 days without there being a public apology (i.e. Jonah Hill, Gary Oldman, etc). They've also spoken about how twitter is much more dangerous because of the lack of context. These guys, especially Anthony, are a lot smarter than the general public give them credit for. I will personally miss their show. Helped me as a broadcaster. Siriusly...err, seriously.

Opie paid a hooker to attack Anthony and drive him into a Twitter rage that would get him fired? Yeah, that's exactly like Scott being forced out at 'PLJ.

no....I'm saying maybe it's possible that Opie saw this and saw it as an easy opportunity for change and quick change. one guy messes up, the other guy takes full advantage..

The other suggestion he made, and now I see why considering what was posted above, is "what if all this is a fake out?" One big scam being pulled to garner media attention? I must admit, that'd be an interesting experiment.

The O and A Show with Norton couldn't exist without Anthony. I don't think that this is a power grab on Opie's part. I think that they have a few months left on their contract, so they're finishing it. It would be different if they had 3 years left. It does contradict things they've said in the past. For example, they used to bash a Boston radio host who replaced them when they were fired for not standing up for them.

Arguments aside..Where opie and anthony on air today, or did he take a normal vacation week? I don't even listen to the show and I'm curious what happened.
although it does kind of seem like black people have more free reign in what they can say without getting in trouble than the white folk. they can do white jokes and people think it's cute...however, the other way around, and all hell breaks loose.

Well...

That has to do with the fact that white persons used to OWN black persons.

Funny all this talk from Cumia and his supporters stating his tweets should be understood "in context". Well, fine. Let's look at the REALLY big picture.

150 years ago. Not a single person living in the US today has been a slave or has owned a slave. No excuse for hypocrisy and double standards now. NONE.

The "really" big picture is that we have a culture of rats and snitches. People who have never done anything in their lives relishing the idea of bringing down people who actually have success with the click of a mouse. Slacktivism at its finest.

Envy will get you nowhere...

True. As far as slavery, the thing that really pisses me off is this nonsense that because I am white I am considered a descendent of slaves owners or racists. My family and the majority of people here are descendents of immigrants that came after slavery ended. It was also a small minority of whites that owned slaves.

Even if my ancestors did own slaves or were racist in some way, I should not be judged, attacked or discriminated against because of their actions. Judge me for my actions not the actions of my ancestors. I find this attitude that a segment of blacks have against whites in that respect insulting and racist.

It's guilty white people that are the problem. They're why this keeps getting brought up.

Although if you believe some of my friends on FB, racism is as bad as it was in the slave era and that it's everywhere if you look for it. problem is, they very rarely look for the good things, only the bad. Almost like they are fixated on it and that's racist in itself. Heh, reminds me that there was an episode of DS9 that delved into Sisko being super upset about racism. a man in the 24th century still blaming folks of the past for the past and acting like it was alive and well 400 years later...still. Goofiest part of that entire thing ;o).

At least Sisko had an excuse due to his unusual synaptic patterns causing him to experience racism in the 1950s. Maybe your friends are experiencing the same phenomenon and need Doctor Bashir to bring their neural patterns back to normal. ;)

Well there certainly is racism in the world. But we can't allow it to be used as a weapon to stifle speech. No, this isn't a First Amendment issue, but it IS a free speech issue.

The outrage mob has the Heckler's Veto right now, and that's not healthy.

I was listening to a rerun today of O and A. It was just with Opie and Ron Bennington. Opie was describing driving old program directors and assistants nuts. He doesn't seem like a nice guy. I know past members of the show have said that.

Hitler Reacts to SiriusXM Firing Anthony Cumia

LOL.

Learned something new from Hitler. Had no idea Opie had his own show on WBAB at one time. According to wikipedia, Opie met Anthony when Anthony submitted a song parody while Opie worked at WBAB.

they're shock jocks. Either they are totally nice and diminutive off air (nice guys always make the best villains..), or they really are assholes and that should be no surprise to anyone based on how these shock jocks present themselves on air.

But at least Anthony brings talent.

I've met them both on multiple occasions and have friends that are quite close with Anthony. Both of them (Norton too) are among the nicest radio guys I've ever met.

So what has Howard Stern said about this?

Nothing. But he's probably like the majority of insecure, petty radio hosts that are glad more of the "competition" is gone.

The only major radio personalities I've seen stand up for Anthony so far are Geronimo, Leykis and Lionel. Leykis was kinda cryptic with his support, but the other two have been especially vocal. Especially Lionel. He's INCENSED.
