Shocker: CC/Dallas OM Pat McMahon Out

jeffdfw said:
Wonder what happened there?

Shocker? It should have happened years ago. I do hope he finds work soon as i don't like to see anyone out of work but Pat had many chances to bring Mix up and he failed. Good Luck in his job search.

He really wasn't doing anything. As a matter of fact he actually spent a great deal of time on the computer playing game. It was long time coming.

Is this the same Pat McMahon who many Phoenix kids grew up with on the old "Wallace and Ladmo" show? I remember that there was a Pat McMahon who was in radio in the Southwest. I could be wrong.

Wow, I believe he goes back to the KMGC-Magic 102.9 days, possibly from the era of the Mike (Preston) and Robin (Jones) Morning Show (with Steve Nicholl on news,) Bob Delancey on middays, Mark (Lambert) Taylor on PM drive, and Al Forguson on nights.

Perhaps CC is going to finally turn the "Mix" format into a real coast-to-coast franchise, complete with one national PD who knows nothing about local tastes, and lots of hard drives to play the music. You know, like Jack?

Nope, Pat McBland (aka Grandpa Gerald) is still doing toaster talk
1-4pm PT on 92.3 KTAR-FM (aka KT'R) Glendale/Phoenix--he and
his station being a continuing hot topic on the PHX radio board.

You guys have nailed this one. The only "Shocker" here is, Why Wasn't McMahon Fired YEARS Ago?!!! Inquiring posters want to know. The other posts are NOT lying. This guy has been picking up a paycheck for doing nothing since the vinyl 45 was invented. He was a master at delegating and taking the credit if all went well. If it didn't, then he didn't have to take the blame. His programming and people skills were pitiful, and I can assure you, that MOST of the CC Clan is ecstatic to have him G-O-N-E. So many simply can't believe that Clear Channel let it go on so long. (I take that back. Yes we can). And no, I don't like to see a guy out of work either, and I hope he finds another gig soon. For the good of radio, please let it be at Sears.

To borrow a term from "the Ticket" Lex and Terry are spares, KDMX has been underperforming, its AM show is lacking direction, and if it weren't for Kid in the AM KISS would drop considerably. As far as KEGL successes or drops he had nothing to do with it. Its local programming is lacking in compelling radio.......In the end the position was not really supposed to be there and they eliminated it. Though I think it was a long time coming, as a fellow radio guy, I don't wish hate on him, hopefully he gets back on his feet. He just wasn't the leader you would need in that position. And it showed. They are underperforming on all stations except for KISS which is about 1.5% above where it needs to be. I speak of the combination of ratings and business.
