Shocker: WABB 97.5 sold to EMF

So I wonder what is going to happen at midnight Wednesday night? I think it will be interesting to see if WABB does some type of "Farewell" their last hour. I know a similar situation happened in Washington, DC 20 years ago (as a matter of fact 20 years ago last week.) WAVA 105.1 was a major Top 40 station in the DC area. Of course they weren't on the air as long as WABB, but they were still on the air for over a decade and had a great following as a CHR station (I remember listening to them when I was up there in 1990 and even have a tape from one of their broadcasts.) They got sold to a religious organization (not sure which one) who turned it into a Christian station which is what it is now. They kept the WAVA call letters as well. But what I think was interesting was what they did their last hour. They played a mix of old jingles, airchecks, and radio bits from the beginning until the end. At about 11:57pm an announcer came on and thanked all the listeners and said "Goodbye from all of us at 105.1 WAVA". Then, they played the song "Goodbye" by Night Ranger. After that, you heard the legal ID say "WAVA - Arlington, Washington, the future has come to this". I don't know what happened then, if they went right into the new format, did the station sign off until morning, or what because the aircheck ended then. You can find the complete last hour at www.reelradio.com. If you are a member just do a search for "WAVA last hour" and it is there.

To me, that was a very nice tribute and I would like to see WABB do something similar. I'm sure they will go out with a bang, but I wonder at midnight will they start "stunting" for a few days, will they go from being WABB immediately to being K-Love, or will they sign off for a few days and debut the new format. Anybody know what their plans are?

It's KLOVE and they advertise their ID's as Ft Walton Pensacola Mobile so what about 95.7.. WFTW-FM??

It's just a new dial and one different call letter. Same station. Looks like the crew is coming back over here. So y'all, don't be sad anymore. At least that's Cumulus' thinking.

You can change the dial position, change the call letters, and give it a nice WABB-like logo.

I know i100 when I hear it!

Nate, they did that. And it's so cheesy. WABB is history. People need to move on from it. Start anew.

So I wonder if Cumulus made any attempt to buy 97.5 from EMF in exchange for 104.1 and something else.... like an extra station they don't want in Albany, Gerogia or something?
If people didn't have to scan the dial, Cumulus wins.
