Shocking Turn of Events: Sports Radio 610 KILT is Pending Sale!

I was reading this article from Houston Sports Online that announces who is replacing Nick Wright on "In the Loop" with John Lopez. That's an afterthought now, as when you read towards the end of the brief article, his replacement is a part time weekend guy named Cody Shoots. He was thrust into the position as a cheap way to the fill the spot "with the pending sale of the station in play".

That's a game changer for the City. KILT has been THE sports leader in Houston since 1996, when it abandoned the simulcast with its FM counterpart, dropping the country music after 15 years. Of course, prior to that KILT was the "Big 610", the longtime Top 40 powerhouse in H-Town having brought rock and roll to the airwaves since 1957, as one of the pioneer Gordon McLendon facilities that cemented his legacy. Heck, the calls themselves are a nod to him, as he was affectionately known as "the old Scotsman".

Here's the article: https://houstonsportsonline.wordpre...akes-surprising-choice-to-replace-nick-wrigh/

Who makes a play for the heritage 610 AM? I never personally would've believed 610 would be sold off before 650, but what do I know? Wonders never cease...

Ignore this, Purple. While the Stoots news is likely accurate, the blogger has probably heard the CBS talk of spinning off the radio division, and has assumed KILT would go to a completely new owner. In reality the entire CBS Radio division is more likely to become a separate company as a whole, with most of the same shareholders. This is a classic case of the dangers of a little bit of knowledge leading to all kinds of incorrect assumptions.

SportsRadio 610 isn't going anywhere.

Shoddy journalism at its best, eh? I should've considered the source, Frog. After all, doesn't he still work for the competitor operating on West Alabama?

Thanks for the heads up. I knew that sounded a little too unbelievable that CBS Radio would have a deal in the works to unload 610, leaving them holding the bag with the daytimer 650 as its lone AM in market.

I would be nice, though, to think about oldies on KILT 610. I still remember when the music died - at least the top-40 died - when they went country back in 1980 or so. Last time I listened to 610.

Lol!

Nothing but wishful thinking by someone who appears to have a serious case of 610 butthurt.

The whole blog appears to be nothing but smear after smear of 610's hosts. Zero credibility.

I am sure the current hosts on 610 sports radio do a good job at what they do. I have zero interest in most sports and therefore don't know one way or another. I had zero interest in the country format on KILT 610 - no disrespect to those DJ's either. Neither format is / was of the slightest interest to me, no matter how well done it is / was. I listened to KILT 610 when it was top-40, and tuned out the moment it went country. I will not be back unless they go oldies, playing on their heritage call letters.

And the blog post is wrong about the new lineup, too.

Meltzer & Payne move from middays to mornings.

Lopez to middays with Stoots, and former NFL player Dante Hall.
