Shockingly, Sean Demery helms "The New Morning X"

At 6 a.m. this morning, Sean Demery announced his return a bit haltingly, flubbing his beginning, complaining about it being too early, then said, "I'm back home. My name is Sean Demery. Once again, I'm 99x." Then he played "How Soon is Now" by the Smiths.

They announce the team at 6:10 a.m. The show is dubbed "The new Morning X with Sean, Leslie and Jenners." The fourth gal in that masked photo is named Monty. No clue who she is. I'll be hitting the studio in about 45 minutes and get more details.

Dave Marino when he did mornings on Z had a girl name Monty doing traffic or news., can't recall? Maybe she is the same. So far the show sounds good.

Yep, that's the same Monte/Monti/Monty.

I asked my roommate's dog what he thought of the New Morning X. He replied, "Ruff, ruff." Not to say the show is a dog; just that it didn't sound all that tight. There were multiple technical problems, it seemed like Sean hadn't been in a studio for six years, the bits were canned and un-funny and Leslie acted like she had been re-united with her high school boyfriend. I think in time, the edges will be smoothed out and 99X will have a presence in the morning ratings.

Here's a question though...why would 99X go back to the past for the future? Atlanta is a transient community. Honestly, how many people on this board even remember when he did afternoons on 99X? I moved here in June of 2000 and missed him by six months. I was familiar with him through the Internet back in 1998. Those listeners who listened to 99X in the glory days have moved out of town, given up on terrestrial radio all together or have be come republicans and are listening to talk radio. I think this is Leslie’s last hurrah. If the New Morning X doesn’t work, she will be asked to find her happiness elsewhere.

I remember Sean since 1991. I think alot of people do.

I think this will create the split between the Buzz and 99x. They are going after 2 different audiences. It will also help bring any listener that may have switched to Dave back to 99x.

Clearly they are targeting Dave not Buzz. They want Dave's demo not the Buzz. The music has definitely been tweaked over the last several weeks to go older.

If I were 30 years older, I'm sure I'd be interested enough to tune in. No offense to Sean in the least as I can remember him when I was a teen, but this is not exciting news. :-\

Good luck, Sean. I wish you the best.

Heard alot of the show this morning and it's going to need alot of work. But with Dave basically gone they have to time to shape it and make it into something compelling. Sean is a smart guy and if he's the driving creative force behind it they'll find their way.

kind of a shocking development, as the story out of SF (and referenced on these boards) was that Sean left KITS to attend to a sick parent in NY state.

Sean addressed that today and said it was until after he left that him and Leslie were discussing the rumors of him returning that they started talking about what if it actually happened. He said one thing led to another and it happened very quickly.

I personally doubt the rumors created the news but that's how they seem to be spinning it for whatever reason rather than the other way around.

Always give a new jock or team 2 weeks before you listen critically. Then ask yourself how they sound. They have to find the knobs.

Note to Rodney: Didn't the last morning show from Kicks leave to take care of his Dad in Texas, only to take a job a couple of weeks later back in St. Louis. I guess it beats "Taking off to spend more time with my family," doesn't it?

Maybe I am wrong but I thought the timeline was he left 105 while they were still all set to take on this guy from Pittsurgh who instead took the Mancow slot.

More proof of the complete ignorance of radio the average poster on this board posesses? You think a new jock or team takes 2 WEEKS to get up to speed? It would take a solid 4 months for any show that has never worked together before to click. Now, of course, the damage may be already done by then, but the point is it takes a while for four people who have never been on the air together before to get comfortable with each other.

You know, when the rumor first kicked around, I was a little worried. I didn't particularly like how Sean sounded on mornings back in the day, and re-confirmed it with the tapes I have on hand. Sean back then sounded like he was half awake and bleary-eyed. Often very cynical and sarcastic, which just didn't work in the morning. He sounded much more comfortable when he moved to afternoons.

But I'll admit that he sounded better this morning than he did in mornings back then, so maybe he's really ready for this. And I was really pleased to hear his voice this morning. The pauses, etc - I love that stuff. Hopefully, he'll figure out how to use the buttons in the coming weeks.

I am a little worried with the name. What's the over-under on the number of days before somebody says, "The Morning X with Sean, Leslie, and Jimmy"? (That was the first incarnation of the Morning X once Jimmy came on board in 1994. Before that, it was just "Sean and Leslie".)

I don't think I care what reason he gave Live 105 for leaving. If they accepted it and let him go, does it really matter? (During the final going-away show there, he simply said he was leaving "to take care of some personal stuff".)

Haaa...haaa Sean has been using that excuse for his flakiness for years. I know of very few people at 45+ who can go back to work at an Alternative format unless your "Buds" with the PD.

You're correct this is Leslies last harrah if you can call it that. She'll be back at WABB cleaning Berbie Ditmanns office in no time. :D
