Shooting downtown

KTAR covering it from all angles. KFYI? Tape delayed Limbaugh...you would expect actual life coverage at FYI?

No excuse for KFYI....

KTAR better have it covered well since it happened about a half mile south of their building.

Obviously one station covers such events better, whether they are down the street or across town. The other station which is very "thin-skinned" when it comes to people criticizing their organization or it's "personalities" is only good for "kiss-up" interviews, "yes men and yes women" and childish applause sound effects.

They can dish out criticism of other media and media personalities, but God forbid if someone criticises them. If they spent as much time doing news as the spend "scrubbing the Internet" of criticism, they would be better off.

Of course, "breaking news" at KTAR means only until 7pm, because that's Ramsey Time. It's going to look awfully silly if/when Phoenix P.D. schedule another news conference - after 7pm - and people tuning into 92.3 for updates (because we all know how KTAR is the "breaking news" station) hear more canned Ramsey and "We're Debt Free!" calls when there's a gunman on the loose. It's a bit hypocritical to criticize KFYI for making, essentially, the same programming decisions of KTAR. After 7pm, there's really no diff between the two.

*All* angles? I didn't hear any on-air listener calls. Really makes ya wonder how severe and serious a news story has to be that they'll open up their phone lines to "the source" (as Dumb and Dumber call it on the rare occasion the suits let them take calls.) Considering how many "real" people were affected, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect they could have opened up their phone lines. MOR radio plays music. "Talk radio" is supposed to take on-air listener calls. Or used to, anyway. Especially on "big" news days like today - somebody at Bonneville needs to Netflix the Kirk Douglas flick 'Ace In The Hole.' Just sayin'...

While KTAR was local, all you get from KFYI is old Rush...but, if you wait 4 hours, you can listen to Mike Broomhead whine because some people had the audacity to talk about gun control today. ::)

Didn't our august lawmakers make it much easier for anyone to carry a gun into a building a few years back?

KTAR wins, KFYI drops the ball again...

(Indie...KFYI calls themselves "News-Talk Radio" so, you would expect some news wouldn't ya?

Actually, I would, though if they've already established that Rush pays their bills just like how Bonneville has decisively concluded Ramsey pays the bills for them ("breaking news" be damned after 7pm and on weekends), it helps to remember you're still comparing apples to apples. I can't begin to count the number of significant news stories that broke after 7pm and on weekends, all on Ramsey's watch. Show me more consistent team coverage from KTAR after 7pm and on weekends and I'll be impressed.

I agree that KFYI is not great at covering, but I did hear Ted Houston report LIVE from near the scene at the top of the 5:00 hour. Typically, they would have recorded Ted giving his update, yet the LIVE feel made the urgency seem that much greater.

I'll give them credit for that one, even if it was a bit of theatre of the mind.

I didn't hear Ted, but I did hear some dummy update reporter mention the "Glendale shooting" twice.
