This is a huge purchase and want to make sure we get it right. Does anyone have opinions on Wide Orbit, OMT? These are the two main products were looking at.

Right on, oldies! , I have to see the machine to remind me it is here. I have been running computer based units since 1990..and this is unquestionably the best ever...Thanks JBI

NOT OMT. Their support stinks, the people are rude and it's always "your fault" their software isn't working. I have a client on it, it's clunky. Each task, such as logs, voice tracking or production requires launching a separate application. Very counter-intuitive.

I recommend NexGen as well. I've heard good things about Wide Orbit but have never used or installed it, so I can't comment on it.

If you have a good engineer to set it up properly, Enco can run well. NexGen is a bit more user friendly in the setup department. Enco support is also very good, as is RCS. For the cost of these things, the support people should treat me like gold (like Enco and RCS) and not an idiot.

Unfortunately NexGen is not an option for us here. I have heard similar stories about support being terrible. I witnessed a brief demo of the OMT system, and i would have to agree with you. It appeared clunky and the GUI seemed outdated. All the feedback greatly appreciated!

ENCO is very powerful, very reliable, and as NS Radio said, support is very good. ENCO can do a lot of things especially if you use DCL (DAD Command Language). It isn't really that hard to set up or maintain, though good engineering is always helpful.

We have been using WideOrbit on three stations for a couple of years and have had very few problems. Tech support has been good. Only real problems we have had was when one of the jocks started using the Wideorbit server to check his email, and watch porn.
Tip: Whatever system you get don't let them use the computers for internet access.

I have stations on iMediatouch. While I believe it's a better product than the others here do, I agree that you should look at something else. The tech support is expensive and the techs can definitely be jerks--I've experienced the "it's your fault attitude" several times. Enco, WideOrbit, AudioVault are all good products. Any reason why you're not looking at less expensive systems, such as Simian?

Finally, you should talk to Bill who owns a cluster up in Washington about iMediatouch (he posts here). IIRC, he had iMediatouch install the system at his cluster and the system had issues. The company has never fixed his issues, even though OMT actually installed the system!

Maybe you can be more specific on why Nexgen is not an option and more clear on what you want in a system.Live, VT, Sat,etc
Some folks like Simian and their new OP-X. For a sat delivered format Simian works ok. You should have someone that can negoitiate a deal.I still prefer Nexgen and their support is superb. You know the old saying,You can pay me now or later. You just don't want regrets and down time later(poor support). BTW check out Wire Ready, they will even sell you the software and you can roll your own.

Our company only has two systems in their markets. OMT and Wide Orbit. We would like to standardize as much as possible. Right now we have significantly more markets using OMT than anything else. From what I've seen I'm just not as impressed with the interface of OMT as i was with Wide Orbit. Wide Orbit uses a SQL database instead of flat file. Granted its open source and not MSSQL. As with most radio stations i think the voice tracking feature would be the most important. We do some satellite programs but not many (no sports). Competent support is a MUST since we would be converting from an Audio Vault system. If I'll be going against the majority, I better have a good argument why. I just want what works best for our people. If it's OMT it's OMT.

Given your choice, I would lean heavily towards Wide Orbit. The workflow from all of the demos I've seen and people I know using it is leaps and bounds above OMT. The GUI on OMT looks like DOS on the production and VT modules (again, separate programs that have to be launched each time). Editing the log is a pain because you have to go in log tools and then attach, then save then.... well you know, since your company has it.

Get a demo of Wide Orbit. I haven't installed a system yet as most clients are on NexGen (and one AV).
