Not sure this goes in national TV, but here goes
There have always been a number of fulltime shopping format TV stations using the feed around the clock. It seemed to be pretty popular with LPTV stations.
I was curious about the commission structure for affiliates of the various Shopping formats. Anybody out there with an idea of how that worked or works these days. I'd think it might be different if your station is in a top 10 market versus, say, Columbia, Missouri.
I come from radio, not TV background, but I knew some LPTV operators.
One carried Video Jukebox and got a commission on each 'request'. I think he was guaranteed $500 minimum per month as a base payment and once his commission exceeded $500 he got more but I don't know he ever reached the point of earning over $500 a month.
Another carried Video Catalog Channel (remember them?) and it seems the guy was offered $1 an hour, 24/7 to start by an some folks in order to lease the station and he seriously considered it. I remembered thinking $1 an hour might not even pay the bills and $1 an hour seemed a measley amount to ern from carrying a shopping channel on your LPTV even though the guy was not carried by cable and I doubt his entire audience potential was more than 100,000 households, likely about 75,000.
Thus, my curious mind wonders what the lay of the land is on this sort of TV affiliation
