Shore 104.3 switching?

Bummer! I didn't really think Vancouver would support two "Triple A's" especially under PPM. At least the Peak is still holding strong.

Sad that they let their air staff go. I still liked that ceremony with their morning crew and KAFE's morning crews, where they swapped frequencies at the peace arch, so that KMCQ could move to Cougar Mountain.

Shore was a great AAA and now there's only CKPK left as the only surviving AAA in Puget Sound. I knew when Astral got their hands on them that Shore wasn't going to be for long......

Supposedly they are going to go "Boom" (Boom is their national brand of "Jack"-like Classic Hits.)

Wow. Shore goes Boom......

And will this mean the fall of CKLG's Jack format? Or will Boom go "boom" after half a year? What's your prediction?

General indifference. If you heard one "variety hits" station, you've pretty much heard them all. Because the basic formula musically in every one of these "brands" remains the same.

Shore seemed more like "coffeehouse" AAA (they played more acoustic and local music), lots of classics with an occasional current rocker, while The Peak is more currents (a good analogy to CKPK's format musically would be KLCK-FM's alternative leaning week or two a year ago.)

Another reason might be CKPK's pending frequency switch with CFRO 102.7 (the KRAB of Vancouver) Which CKPK will use to it's maximum potential of 100,000 watts (instead of the crummy 5,500 watts mono CFRO can only afford to use on it currently.)

When the switch occurs, CFRO will move to CKPK's current 100.5 MHz, 11,000 watt state of the art facility and CKPK will move an even flashier new facility at 102.7 under construction at the full 100,000 watts CFRO was originally allocated, but was never able to financially muster beyond 5,500 watts.

How this all affects CKPK's format remains to be seen. For all I know, they themselves COULD flip to another format once on 102.7 MHz.

But once this does happen, no doubt KZOK will feel the erosion of listeners in Skagit and North Snohomish counties. I know a guy in Mount Vernon who regularly listens to KZOK and he actually thinks it will be as easy as KZOK cranking it up to 200,000 watts and blasting right back.

I just don't have the heart to tell him it's really not just that simple.......

It's going to be interesting up north.....

But looking at KMTT, they had either better breathe some new (or tried, true and GENUINE) life back into this station. Or let it die (with hopefully SOME mediocrely measurable level of dignity befitting of the LEGENDARY station it ONCE was - if anyone is STILL listening.) Because KMTT today as it is, is merely a ghost of it's former self.
