Shotgun Tom getting a Hollywood sidewalk star

It's reported he was among the 2013 honorees announced this week. He's still a San Diego County resident (2/7ths of the time) and KRTH comes in as well as man SD signals in the north county, so we can still claim him as one of our own.

I worked with him briefly at KOGO in about 1980/81 when George John's crew had come up with some godawful format, but Shots was always smiling and always a trooper. Today he's the last of the Boss Jocks and still rockin' with an energy level that defies his 60+ years of age.

Shotgun is the greatest of the greats!! There is no one that signifies the term disc jockey better than Tom! He loves the public and Radio in general with all of his heart!

Anyone can buy a star. It cost Shotzie's wifes bank account $20K. Hope he doesn't have any enemies. He'll wind up with a star on star magazine

Before putting mouth in motion, please put brain in gear. (We need to update that to address clueless keyboard commandos)

"Each year, an average of 200 nominations are submitted to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame Selection Committee."

There were 14 selectees this year.

A fee (currently $30,000), payable at time of selection, is collected to pay for the creation and installation of the star, as well as general maintenance of the Walk of Fame. The fee is usually paid by the nominating organization, which may be a fan club, or a film studio, record company, broadcaster, or other sponsor involved with the prospective honoree.

You know in radio today there are very few heroes for young broadcasters. And Shotgun Tom Kelly is a great rolemodel to look at today. And it is a shame that someone would say something so disparaging about him for achieving something that almost no one in radio gets and only a handful from San Diego has received!
