Shots fired at Q107.5, Hot 107.1 sales office

From All Access:

"An eventful evening last night (1/24) as the sales office of FLINN Top 40 WHBQ (Q107.5) and sister Urban KHXT (HOT 107.1)/MEMPHIS took 18 rounds from a semi-automatic rifle. The cleaning crew had just finished the KHXT studios and were headed to the main building when the gun fire broke out. Thankfully, no one was injured. The police have no leads, yet."

I read that last night and found it odd there has been no local news coverage of a radio station being shot at. Maybe I missed it.

Sadly, "shots fired" just isn't newsworthy in this town anymore.

Apparently someone was unhappy with the rate they were given.

good one!

I'm glad everyone is okay Thank God for that.

next time play that request with a smile... I remember taking a vacation from my high school radio job and we pretended i had been taken off the air... imagine all the 13 year old girls banging on the station door on a friday night... it was a great way to show management people where listening in case the phones being lit up were not convincing enough

Unless somebody goes down; it just isn't news anymore.
Hell, how many shots do we suppose were fired elsewhere in Memphis that same night?
By the way...where was John Ford that night?
I'm sure he's still a little on edge lately.

The Hot studio is in the former garage, next to the sales office behind the main building.
Apparently they were pissed about something. Maybe another street team member getting the ax! It's amazing it has not happened before with as many people that leaves or gets fired in that building.

I can't believe you people are so cold! Your ATTEMPTED humor falls way short of being funny. Little Larry has received death threats on his cell phone. The gunshots were to show him they were serious. You find humor in a fellow broadcaster's life being threatened? It wasn’t a fired employee (Street Team or otherwise), their rates or request…it was a lot more serious than that. I know a lot of people that work in that building and the sales office behind it and was very concerned when I heard about what happened. A lot of you expressed your sorrow when Rebecca was murdered, how soon we forget how fast someone can lose their life. So TK, Mo, Big Sue and especially Little Larry you guys will be in my thoughts and prayers. Here’s hoping they were satisfied with the media attention they did get (although it was a day late) and will let this drop.

Now, you guys can go back to the internet and find humor in someone else’s misfortune.
______________

Ummmm......the building was empty. It was the sales building.
'Twas a shame about the coffee pot, though.

Live the thug life, pay the thug price. I'm amazed this hasn't happened here before this.

To answer another post, there are probably 15-20 "shots fired" calls on an average night in Memphis. More on the weekends. Those are only the ones that get reported. In some parts of South Memphis, the folks don't bother calling unless someone gets hit. On a quiet night, you can hear automatic weapons in the distance in several parts of our fair city. For those of you on Beale Street at midnight this past New Year's, those weren't all firecrackers you heard.

Sad, but so true. Two nights before moving out of Memphis last fall, John (my ride from IRN whom I was living with for about a month) and I were on Winchester just a few blocks from Hacks Cross when we heard about a dozen shots. Yes, I called 911 and the dispatcher said it had already been reported. Never saw even one cruiser, and we actually hung around the area.

We were well protected, if you know what I mean, and not particularly worried about driving into the wrong neighborhood... but it's sad that armed citizens are the best defense in Memphis.

But, you know, this does bring up an interesting 'what if' question. Disgruntled listener? Ex-employee (God, I hope none in our ranks got that distraught over something that happened in THAT building)? Or just the hip hop lifestyle begets that kind of thing? If it's the first option, you gotta wonder, is it better to just VT nights so that nobody's in danger in a situation like this, or is it simply because some nut case didn't get his request played cuzz the jock had to follow format? Was this a case of a salesperson stiffing a customer?

Another time, I think it was in August before Garner took over nights for me at FM 100, I stepped out back to sneak a smoke and heard gunfire. I swear it was. Never heard a siren, tires squealing or anything. Gated as WMC is, stray bullets don't observe security and I couldn't help thinking being on the second floor wouldn't have helped had an errant round been flying around within a block of 1960 Union Ave. Ya just gotta love Memphis!

All is quiet (and friggin cold) up here in yankee country... except for the gunfire coming from the range at the fish & game club 2 miles down the road. But these guys can actually HIT the target up here haha.
______________

A week's pay says it was gang related. Another week's says the jock knows or strongly suspects who it was. Another week's pay says they'll never tell that to the police.

I say it wasn't an ex-employee because they didn't know where to shoot. If they had known the studio is in the garage that's where the bullets would be.

And another thing. If anyone out there knows who did this you need to call Crimestoppers. If they get away with this it will be open season.

Don't tell me, they play rap on those stations, don't they. I'm not surprised.

According to channel 13 News the day after the shooting some Rapper got upset with Little Larry because he thought that LL had upstaged him when he (Little Larry) came into a club where the Rapper was performing. He had called Little Larry on his cell phone and made death threats. But you're right Little Larry told the police he didn't know for sure who it was that fired the shots. From what I understand the Hot Studios and the Sales Office where both sprayed with bullets, I could be wrong on that point that's just what I've heard on the street.
______________

Mitch.....

Mitch McCracken, I got your back. I read all these posts, and while I think it's sad at all the wise-cracks, I expect it from people who don't really care.

Hot's been my fav. station for years, and they love Memphis. I'm very happy that Flinn has kept this station up for years and I hope they continue to let it live. Memphis Hip Hop has high tensions and rivalries for years, and it still continues. I was wondering why I didn't hear Lil Larry on air recently.

But yo, I'm glad no one was hurt. And DAMN all yall wise-crackers on here.
