Should 96.3 WQXR go country?

Lots of valid points. Just one correction.....once again...... "Y107" did NOT fail, in fact they were making a decent amount of $$ with the spotty signals. The problem was that Big City Radio Corp ran a number of Hispanic outlets and this was thier area of "expertise". They made the bad decision of dropping a format that they were unfamilar with in order to program a spanish format that was unable to reach much of it's target audience. THAT format FAILED in less than 6 months. The country format did just fine on 107.1 and was simply a corporate "victim".

It's all about how well you execute the station, promote the station, and who you have working in your advertising department.

Hard work, patience, and quality sounding programming could equal success to a country station here, but it would have to be on a full power FM signal. Not on four sticks, which means the comparison of Y107 is somewhat irrelevant.

But neo still brings up good points. It's really a matter of opinion and how you look at the format, market, and population as a whole.

PS want country? MOVE TO IT!! GET OUT OF THE CITY AND LEAVE US ALONE ALREADY!!!

:D

This "PS" statement has to be the best comment I read tonight about this silly topic that keeps coming up again..and again..and again...and again..... Wow, they really think that country has a better chance than heritage NY-centric formats that already have been waiting far too long for a spot on the dial...old school hiphop, progressive house, to name a couple.

New York already has a country station! its called WKTU HD 2 so if you want to listen to it go out and get a HD radio!

For those of you wanting some country, it looks like Z100 will meet your fill. They have recently been playing Carrie Underwood and it is added to their playlist on z100.com. Maybe more to come?

I have been in radio for a few years, but I have never seen a radio station with an "advertising department" and don't even know what one would do...
