Should a station that plays these tracks be allowed to report as AC?

The Wanted - Glad You Came
Fun. - We Are Young
Killers - Mr. Brightside
LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem
Katy Perry - Part Of Me (fits, I guess)
Outasight - Tonight Is The Night
Enrique Iglesias - Tonight I'm Loving You/I Like It
Usher - DJ Got Us Falling In Love
All American Rejects - Gives You Hell
Black Eyed Peas - Just Can't Get Enough
Selena Gomez - Love You Like A Love Song
Gym Class Heroes - Stereo Hearts

....etc. That's just a sample - they play more gold/recurrent stuff that's questionable, as well. These are all played on WMYI/Greenville, SC who reports as AC. How are they getting by with it? Is it just me, or are the above tracks pushing the envelope just a little too much? I don't hear them play some of these very much, but still, it's surprising that a station with that kind of sound isn't moved to Hot AC.

Just to clarify, as I've said over and over, I'm all for AC's that are brighter and uptempo - but when do you cross the line from AC to Hot AC?

Who is doing the allowing? Arbitron? Billboard? The record labels?

One of two things is likely to happen:
1) Many "AC" stations across the country ramp up their rhythmic product like LMFAO
2) "AC"'s core listeners reject the rhythmic product and pioneers like WMYI or WSB-FM revert to a lazier style

Mediabase/Neilsen BDS

WMYI has gone way further than WSB has. They're gold/recurrent-heavy Hot AC, IMO. Their situation has been quite similar to WNIC/Detroit, who has done a similar change. WMYI was losing to rival AC WSPA consistently 25-54 before they segued to the current format. I doubt they'll go that route again.

Perhaps it's time to be done with such silly distinctions.

No.
