If the president says it that makes it news so they have every right to say it. A minority of the country voted this guy into office so now we are stuck with seeing this mess unfold on TV.

Should cable news networks use profanity on-air?

I forgot to mention this most likely when Nexstar owned stations, Network O&O's, Hearst and other local TV station owners are covering stuff about the president they are most likely using the network clips for national news. All the local news staff can do here is say that "The president has made controversial statement on somewhere and how it affects cabinet morale" then go to the network clip. When this memo was made somebody at Nexstar forgot to mention that local TV anchors are going to the network news clips for that. Well in Nexstar's case KHON Honolulu are using Fox News Clips when it comes to the president, or KRON San Francisco are using CNN clips for segments involving the Donald Trump and CBSN clips for KOIN tv and KLAS tv.
in my opinion, i never would thought i see the day when one of the seven dirty words that George Carlin refer to as would be used by our president and be repeated by media outlets who cover the news, let alone the fact in the context of how he used the word was that in a racist manner to describe 3rd world counties.
the bigger question is, the moral dilemma of using the word on the air, especially when your newscast airs on over the air broadcast TV where the FCC can fine you for using said dirty word or on Basic Cable where you can get away with it as the FCC can't fine you for using it on Basic Cable.
the last few years, some basic cable networks have been able to allow shows rated TV-MA or TV-14 to use the S word uncensored, and i know some CNN shows like Parts Unknown and their reairing of the 9/11 documentary have allow the S word be left unbleeped (in the case of the 9/11 doc, all the bad words were unbleeped due to the raw and tragic as it happens nature of that documentary of that horrible day in 2001).
i would be worry about NBC and their stations getting a fine for having the word appear once uncensored as well as said once unbleeped during the Thursday night edition of NBC Nightly News when the covered the President's racist use of the S word.
i don't know if CBS did leave that word unbleeped in their coverage on CBS Evening News and i know ABC made the decision to censor it on World New Tonight.
i wonder if the FCC would give all media outlets who say the S word unbleeped or uncensored or would they let them all slide since they were using it in a news coverage manner to describe what the president had said.
i think the taboo about the S word has been fading away for years thanks to basic cable anyway.

Truman, LBJ and Nixon were exactly whom I had in mind, and Truman was especially unapolgetic and celebrated for his salty language. Reagan, Obama, Carter (yes, Carter), Ford and Bill Clinton were not above profanity. George W Bush, Joe Biden and John Kerry all dropped the f-bomb in public. And Hillary Clinton was well-known for foul language, at one time referring to President Obama as a motherf***er.

Yes even in the Philippines they currently have President Duterte and his daughter who is the Mayor of Davao City who makes similar rants. But whenever my family watches Philippine News the media outlets there are editing the rants that are TV and Youtube friendly over there. We do not get the uncensored version of Duterte like the people in his rallies get. Trump rants can be seen uncensored if you are watching certain pro-Trump Youtube talk shows though. But like the entire thread is about you are going to take precautions here.

Which is one reason why Trump likes Duterte.
CNN seems to be enjoying it's opportunity to cuss at every possible time. It's bad when you have to block a news channel from the kids.
