Should CBS dust off "Hot Hits" in Los Angeles?

Perhaps as a counter to CC's KROQ attack with 98.7, should CBS thank them by going after KIIS? Is KIIS vulnerable at all? Would CBS even have an outlet here to go hot hits? Or should someone else try it?

(Really, what does Emmis have to lose at this point by going more CHR -- but slightly older skewing than KIIS (aka, less hip hop) -- with 93.9? Would probably be a better fit with Rick Dees.)

I think most broadcasters view a mid-4 share average 12+ for KIIS and say to themselves that the best they could do is take 35% to 40%, probably in younger demos and that is no better than all but one or two B's in the market and likely less saleable.

That is just what they have... a form of AC... a format pretty well covered in LA and where stations can move a bit to block. The only way in is on the low end, since KIIS is pretty much an 18-34 or 18-39 female station and Seacrest is a near perfect match.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing another Top 40 station in Los Angeles, it probably won't happen at this point, plus KCBS-FM's HD2 just launched its "AMP Radio" format so its a wait-and-see right now.

This entire thread is dumb because they have signal to do it with.

The only FM that had any challenges is KLSX - and it's really beginning to turn the corner. They are starting to see some nice growth with Carolla and they have some pretty solid midday and PM drive numbers men 25-54.

I don't believe at $47,000,000 in revenue that KTWV will go away.

Why would CBS want to irritate Wall Street by making changes in their No. 1 revenue market where they are winning.

BTW, if someone attacks KIIS more on the pop side, they can EASILY react and protect.

The only reason to do it is to flank them - but David is correct that the revenue would be mediocre at best.

There's a pretty good chance someone will go after KIIS-FM this year, ie launching a CHR/Pop station. I think Doctah's post was on point.

Amp Radio is too much of a Radio Disney type of station, and it's on HD Radio. Since only about 10,000 people at best in metro L.A. even own an HD Radio Amp Radio is less competition right now for KIIS-FM then even some of the college and religious stations on the dial.

Maybe Emmis could dump Moving for a top 40 format?
