That certainly answers that...

I can't find that document on the FCC site - but there are large gaps in the docket numbers. I wonder if the FCC deletes proposal records if the proposal is denied?

I note that proposal also has WHHT 106.7 moving to 106.5. (among MANY other changes!) That would address that problem, and the move of the WNFN transmitter north would address the issue with WDXE.

Is "Elizabethtown CBC" a subsidiary of Cumulus? It sure doesn't look that way -- Cumulus' website lists five Lexington stations as their only Kentucky holdings. If "ECBC" *is* Cumulus, can they force a station owned by someone else (WLSK) to change COL and reduce power? If "ECBC" *isn't* Cumulus, can they force a station owned by someone else (WNFN) to change COL and increase power?

(or is there a mutual agreement between Cumulus and "ECBC" that doesn't show up here?)

Boy, do I have a lot to say about 106.7:

1. From what I remember, the Planet's format was not Hot AC, but a milder, more female-friendly version of the Alt-Rock format WKDF had during its last few months as a Rock station. From a commercial standpoint, at least, the Planet had one of the riskiest formats tried on Nashville radio over the past decade.

2. As I've said before on this board, a big problem 106.7 had as both as the Planet and the Rooster, is having as the Fan, and would almost surely have as a Hot AC station is a format whose listener base is too spread out across Middle Tennessee for the station's weak signal, and thus the best possible format for a station with 106.7's mostly urban coverage area is anything that would attract lots of city dwellers, but provoke minimal interest among suburban and rural listeners. Of course, many of us on this board agree that most kinds of African-American-oriented formats would fit this description, but Cumulus is probably too afraid of hurting 92Q to try any of them. In that case, maybe Cumulus should give liberal talk, which would likely pull in a racially diverse group of mostly urban listeners, a chance on 106.7 and create an ideological and demographic flipside to the heavily suburban-white-skewing mix of conservative and libertarian talk on WTN.

3. However, any fomat flip on 106.7 will probably not happen until after the legal drama with WNSR comes to an end. If Cumulus changes 106.7's format now, but ends up winning the lawsuit (which it shouldn't, IMO), then the victory would be much more hollow for Cumulus. Also, Cumulus is probably tempted to keep a sports format on 106.7 simply as an act of defiance against WNSR and its legal complaints.<P ID="signature">______________

At some point, you'd think the "defiance" would start being less attractive as you're watching your money go down the drain, and then you'd cut your losses and settle out of court.

Let's don't forget that during its urban period, 106.7 was established to compliment 92Q rather than take away from it. I would love to see someone program an urban-targeted station in Nashville that would include a lot of talk in the mix. I could see starting with the upcoming Steve Harvey syndicated morning show, follow it with the return of Triple H to the local airwaves, then build from there.
