Should Fresh 100.3 go?

Give them until October. If ratings don't improve before the annual Christmas programming, I'll say maybe. But to what other format?

I agree. they went to a 3.5 share, and their cume is over 1 million. So, it looks like they will definitely get more time. Also, maybe the folks at Clear Channel think Fresh can still work, and they are thinking, 105.1 has been on a hot streak, but they are at a 3.9, while Fresh is at a 3.5, and they have a higher cumulative audience.

There is a place for the format (although I much prefer Soft Rock 105.1) but I've always thought "Fresh" was a really stupid moniker. I am glad they didn't banish the heritage WNIC call letters. How about "I100"?

One thing I prefer about WNIC as opposed to WDVD... NO PEREZ HILTON. :D

I don't know what comprised the bump in cume, but they have an AQH lower than WMGC which means their TSL suffers as well by comparison.

The music mix trends toward one used by many stations in the market and their numbers suffer in comparison with the same period a year ago. I don't see this format change as a positive, but do agree that any change before Christmas is unlikely.

I don't think WNIC should go away completely, but I do think they really need to decide what format they want to be. This whole Hot-AC-but-still-trying-to-cater-to-mainstream-AC-listeners thing doesn't seem to be working too well. The station is having an identify crisis it seems.

It just seems like there's absolutely nothing WNIC is playing that you can't hear anywhere else on Detroit radio.

I'd rather have WNIC than WDVD. WDVD has become so crappy now that Cumulus took over. They haven't even added I won't Give Up by Jason Mraz. WNIC has been playing it a lot.

Good answers, guys!

To be honest, I think that if Fresh 100.3 does go, they should go back to mainstream AC unless it's too late for that. In some ways, I think Jay Towers had to do with this change to Fresh 100.3. They probably won't go back to mainstream AC with Jay Towers in the morning.

Jay Towers won't have a morning show or a radio job if FRESH 100.3 go.

That would be one good thing about Fresh 100.3 changing formats. ;D Even if it's not necessarily true.

A.J. is correct about one thing - WNIC plays almost no music now that can't be heard on five or six other stations in the market. Even many of the Hot AC currents they play that WDVD doesn't can be heard on 93-9 The River.

I wonder if WNIC were to switch back to mainstream AC, if the listeners who have defected to 105.1 would return? Rebuilding a heritage station seems to fail more often than it works, from what I've observed. B94 in Pittsburgh is a textbook example.

Well, I was thinking if Fresh 100.3 goes, it may catch a lot of people off guard. Many of the people who listen to the station are just getting used to the "Fresh 100.3" moniker.

I think last month's book bought them some time. If that trend continues, I see no change on the horizon for this station.

I don't like the music, but I'm but one person.

At least 105.1, 104.3 and 93.1 (to some extent) play decent music.
