Should I buy a HD Radio for Scranton area?

As my annual XM renewal is scheduled to occur soon I have been wondering if it is worth the money, however I am not sure if HD radio in the Scranton area is a viable alternative as of yet. I use the XM in my house not in my car, my Zune takes care of my music needs when driving.

I have recently heard WVIA id that implies they are broadcasting in HD however I have not found anything on their website about what they may be broadcasting. I was also wondering how the smooth jazz HD station sounds, do they have a good variety etc.

Any comments/opinions are greatly appreciated.

Due to the challenging terrain and distance from markets where HD is more fleshed out, I'd have to say you'd
better be both an optimist and a cheerful loser before you spend too much for an HD receiver for WB/Scranton.
Stationary operation is likely to work better than moving auto reception in such a hilly place.

I'd suggest you buy my demoed-only Accurian, used 4-5 times that I would happily sell at a discount as I
find the operator interface touchpad too irritating. I'm a knob guy. Send PM if you want a deal. I think I have all papers, etc.
I got laid off, so I sure could use 75 back on my 100 dollar investment in an "HD trial". I'll need the money for more important things.
Make an offer of what you think it's worth to demo HD, and if it's fair, it's yours.

Stick with satellite radio.

I here that Sony has a new HD radio that is quite good for $99. Its analog section is also very good. Some of the early HD radios are not quite as sensitive.

Satellite will be finished in five years. HD will take up the slack (going to happen in NEPA) until internet radios become common and we get wifi saturation. Five years after that.

At this time, the extra channels you get on HD Radio in this market are:

All-Comedy Radio on 98.5 HD-2
Blues on 101.3 HD-2
Live rock on 102.3 HD-2
Smooth Jazz on 103.1 HD-2

WVIA, Magic 93, JR-93.7, and 97.9 X are also broadcasting in HD, but not multicasting ...so, I don't consider them to be broadcasting in HD at all. The only one I ever listen to, for any length of time, is the smooth jazz channel, which I consider to be about as good as any other Smooth Jazz station I've ever heard.
