Should I Buy An HD Radio?

It's time for me to replace the head unit in my truck and I'm faced with the daunting question, should I install an HD Radio?

I know we still have a few stations in the Sacramento DMA that broadcast HD, I'm more curious about the content and programming. I've seen some online directories of HD stations/formats on the air but they seem considerably out of date.

Anyone have a good HD radio resource? As it stands, an extra $20-30 seems like a waste of money.

The stations I frequent are "The Delta" (blues) on Kseg 96.9 hd-2 and smooth jazz on Khlx 93.1 hd-2. They are all music and ad free.

How is reception in the region? I live/travel a lot within the Rocklin/Roseville area.

I imagine 96.9 is pretty good but 93.1?

I would, for the AM reception on the stations that choose to broadcast HD and the HD-2 selections around are decent.
107.9-2 has ESPN
106.5-2 has Deep Cuts
98.5-2 has Live Rock
96.9-2 has Blues
94.7-2 has R&B

Along with the other offerings in the market its worth the few bucks.

If you buy an HD car stereo, make sure you can turn the HD mode completely off. I had one several years ago, and I live in the foothills, so HD was in and out and the transitions drove me nuts. I couldn't disable it on that unit. I *just* ordered a new Pioneer unit from Crutchfield for my 4Runner, and made sure I could disable the HD if needed. Big fan of Pioneer and JVC for receiver quality. I think the one I just ordered is a Pioneer DEH-4400HD:
