Should I listen to the Fan now?

I stopped listening to the Fan (Jagger mostly) months ago because of the sports talk. I've been working with a coworker at his desk yesterday morning and today. There's been almost ZERO sports talk!! Makes me wonder about the rumors of a format change. I can see how this can be irritating and confusing to sports and nonsports fans. Basically, you just don't know what to expect with this station. If I start listening because of no sports talk, are they gonna start talking sport all the time all of a sudden. And if I'm tuning in for sports, I'm hearing hardly any sports talk for hours!! This station just can't seem to figure out what it wants to be. Not to mention there is still way to many phone calls, and if I hear "and this from the fan text" one more time!!! I might listen reluctantly for a while, but this station is still a mess overall.

Your post is confusing. The Fan is a sports station so of course they would talk sports. I know there are times when they may digress and go off in another "guy talk" direction but for the most part it is sports.

If you are trying to figure out what station to listen to you should first figure out what format you like and then pick a favorite host. If you want a sports/guy talk station it seems the ticket or the fan would be your best bet. If you want just straight sports then ESPN would be your choice. Among the stations there are many personalities to choose from.

Actually, if you listen to the Fan at all, it's not confusing at all. After months of telling m ehow they're the sports station, and how they have 100K watts of power so I can hear them talk sports, (even in buildings and under bridges) now suddenly they're talking a LOT less sports. And not just a little tweak like from 60/40 to 50/50. It's gone from 80% sports to 20% sports. Listened the other day to Newey and Richie and they didn't touch a sports subject for 2 hours straight...

So the problem isn't figuring out which station you want to listen to. The problem is the station I picked isn't doing what they were doing a few month sback, and aren't really doing what they claim to do. But I'm pretty sure I can't sue for false advertising...

Thank you, you get what I'm talking about. I am not a sports talk radio fan. I listened to 105.3 for their old talk format. When it went to a SPORTS format and Jagger's show talked sports, I stopped listening. Now the Fan still calls itself a sports station, but talks hardly any sports at all. When I do want sports, I listen to the Ticket. They do go off sports for a while, but quickly return. It takes a very short listen to realize the Ticket is a sports station. From what I heard the last few days, you could listen to the Fan for HOURS and hear no sports at all. That doesn't sound like a sports station to me.

Don't know what's confusing about that. The station needs to decide what it wants to be before it's to late...which, judging from the ratings, it's probally already to late.

The Fan hasn't decided what it wants to be since they started. The problem is that they throw out random topics and then the fans decide which ones they want to talk about the most. That's why they could have an hour long segment on why do men cheat. I mean come on really! It's like they're still clinging to the hot talk format but still call themselves a sports station by throwing in a few opinions about the Cowboys & Rangers every now and then.

They want to be the Ticket. They can't be. So you get a mish-mash of all sorts of crap.

The Ticket CAN do the "others" do. The "others" can't do what the Ticket does.

It seems apparent from your posts that you already knew the answer to your question.
I thought this was a serious conversation not just an attempt to bash a station. I don't really care about either station. I had no idea there was another agenda to the conversation. My bad for not being up to date on what station to bash.
To add my two late-ass-lame cents. Who gives a F who talks all sports or doesn't. You either like the show or you don't. After the Superbowl I don't expect as much sports talk so it doesn't seem odd to talk stuff about non-sports.
My preference isn't sports so I don't know either station but I am intrigued by the bi or should I say tri partisanship. Quite an interesting dynamic here.

And my post was confusing???????

The Answer: There's never a good reason to listen to "The Fan".

No one else is, per Barry Horn:

"The Ticket's ratings in men 25-54 were beyond boffo. It was No. 1 in the entire Dallas-Fort Worth radio universe in men 25-54, the most important indicator in the sports talk universe.

An example: Mondays-Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., the No. 1 Ticket scored an average rating of 10.1. ESPN 103.3 clocked in at 2.7 (No. 15) and 105.3 The Fan scored a 2.0 (No. 18).

And for whatever it's worth: Cowboys radio ratings on its new flagship, The Fan, were down this season. From Week 3 through the end of the season, they were down almost 11 percent among listeners 12 years old and up. Among men 25-54, the ratings were down 29 percent."

Apparantly someone doesn't think The Fan is long for this world as 1053ampradio.com and ampradio1053 were both registered 2/25/2010. Dip trip flip fantasia??? ;D

Wow........

That is monster.

So, uh, what reason does The Fan have exactly for continuing to take up studio space and useable airwaves?
