Folks, I think i got it; since WNEW got rock since the October 31st, 1967 until in September 13th, 1999 replaced by Hot Talk format by Weekdays then in July 2000 the Rock format gone by Weekends replacing Hot Talk Format with everyday and everynight then on January 2003, Hot Talk format was discontinued and on April Blink 102.7 was introduced by playing gossip music and on Holiday music was played on November and on December 2003-January 2nd, 2007, Mix 102.7 was introduced and played AC since December 2003-April 2004 then Rhythmic AC since April 1st, 2004-January 2nd, 2007 until WNEW dropped letters called WWFS and today's soft music was introduced Fresh 102.7 since January 2nd, 2007 and by the end of this year Jack FM will be on 102.7 not anymore 101.1 since June 3rd, 2005-July 12th, 2007.

Huh????? ???

My thoughts exactly.

Believe me, I'm a big JACK FM fan, but I highly doubt JACK will kick Fresh off of 102.7 anytime soon. Fresh is and has been doing really well. Ever since its inception, the ratings (12+, anyway) have been upward with no one book or trend being down.

If theres any station in which JACK would return, I would bet it happening on 92.3 rather than 102.7. Don't get me wrong, I like K-Rock and have noticed the recent jump in the 12+ book from 1.3-1.7, but without new personalities and the same music mix... if K-Rock plans to be around, they need to implement those changes soon.

I enjoy the "Hostile Takeovers" on K-Rock with various artists/bands (30 Seconds to Mars, Tool, etc), but they definitely need some personalities up in there. Put Danni on the air (she's the Music Director anyway), bring on Dan Neer and a couple of the older DJs (*cough*NO CABBIE*cough*)... hire a couple of new ones to add some fresh breath to the whole gig.

I think that if K-Rock doesn't show drastic improvement over the next year or so... JACK will be back. Right now, I don't see it happening. Numbers are improving for Opie & Anthony and the station is still new.

Let's see where time takes us...

That's not going to happen, I hope they will put "Jack" on 92.3, not on 102.7, because "Fresh" did very well in the Spring book. If K-Rock came back, I don't see it until the Summer Book comes out. If K-Rock continues not to do well, put "Jack" on 92.3. "Jack" made a big move to HD2 after he left the terrestrial airwaves for good and went back to the airwaves at CBS-FM after a two-year absence.

That would be an unbelievably stupid move.

Question: why would you replace a station that's gotten itself into the Top 8 25-54 in less than a year with a station's format that wasn't cracking the top 10 in two years? WHY on earth would they do that?

I agree, DF. If K-Rock goes back to being the same old tired K-Rock it was back in 2005, drop it, reintroduce JACK and this time, GET THE MUSIC MIX RIGHT! Hopefully, if they decide to bring back JACK, they learned from JACK's first fun, fix those errors, make the station sound like it's SUPPOSED TO (a hits station from the 70's to today) and put some personality, but keep it minimal just like how Fresh does... since the overall idea of JACK is that it's a music-intensive format... you can even keep the Howard Cogan liners, just make sure the writers don't insult anyone like how they did when JACK first arrived. (The Canadian JACKs are a great example of how to mix the Cogan liners with live personalities)

The combined mix of a correctly-done JACK FM, the legendary CBS-FM and the well performing Fresh would be a great FM cluster for CBS Radio in NYC.

Alva, if you think that CBS is going to replace the first thing that's done well across the board on 102.7 in a decade with a struggling format like jack, well, you must be on some heavy medication or something. The only way that happens is if someone very high up at CBS is shorting company stock.

Why would they re-brand K-Rock (after the admitted disaster of Free FM) only to replace it with another admitted disaster (in New York at least) that was Jack FM?

I agree with most of you. I had the chance to listen to K-Rock this past weekend, very limited but, overall i must say it was nice to hear rock on the NY dial again. I am probably repeating myself, but i think if K-Rock wants to stay with the rock format for the long run, i think they should simply follow a similar playlist, that of which you find on satelite. I think the best model would be Octane on sirius. They tend to play more of mainstream artists played on the radio, but sometimes go deeper into some of the regulars album. If K-Rock was to do this they not only would be giving NY a better variety of Rock, i think the numbers would take off. When i listen to sirius it seems like there is no limit to what they will play. The other day i heard POD sleeping awake, i was shocked. If K-Rock was to deliver the same shock to the NY Rock airwaves i think people will react. Thoughts?

Just out of curiosity, what makes any of you think that JACK needs to return to analogue broadcast in New York on a CBS owned frequency? There seem to me to be plenty of other non-CBS owned frequencies in NYC for which the JACK format might actually be an improvement.

They own the rights?

Now if you want to talk about a Jack-like format (without calling it Jack) then you open up a whole new bag of fish. ;)

Close... I believe the way it's setup is that CBS won the rights from Sparknet to license JACK to the most major of markets. Of course, there ARE non-CBS JACK stations in some major markets (San Diego, for instance). In the markets 40+, ABC has the rights to deliver JACK to those small markets via the satellite JACK feed.

Maybe if Bob Perry catches this, he could fill us in with the info. But basically you're right... if CC, Citadel, Emmis or another company wanted to put Adult Hits on in NYC, they could use "Mike", "Bob" or one of the many male monikers out there...

95.5 Scott FM with Scott Shannon in the mornings! ::)
