Should Jacks Have DJ's

Most Jack stations are totally automated, so my question is a Jack station better with or without jocks. I've heard some of the call ins on WJMK saying to keep everything as is and not ruin it by adding DJ's. I personally don't care if a Jack station would have jocks as long as they keep the same Jack attitude. However, if they bring an Eric & Kathy (WTMX Chicago AM Drive duo)gabfest to Jack, I'm gone. Jack is a great alternative in the morning by actually playing music. I personally like listening to Jack at work because I know I won't hear the same songs repeated several times a day or having a 200 song library and that's it.

I, personally, think that they should continue without the DJ's. The purpose of the station is to be music intensive, and the "personality" to the station is the voice of Jack, Ben, Bob, etc. Whenever 95.7 BEN-FM/Philadelphia plays new music, they have a prerecorded voice that tells you the name of the artist and song title.

DJ's on Jacks would probably not work. My neighbor i'm friends with listens to Jack from nyc on his aol account since he likes it. I go over his place sometimes and he has Jack on through his computer and the way Jack sounds off on DJ's calling in some liners calling it DJ Dribble and saying that it takes more time from playing non stop music, it's basically a computer automated format which doesn't like or support DJS or anything. So for DJ's to be on Jacks it would be a bad idea since it's an automated/ipod format too.

As some of you know, the Canadian Jacks have DJs in daytime dayparts, at least. I was listening to the Calgary Jack last night (which doesn't have DJs between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.) and it was strange hearing a promo for the wacky morning show, with a sizable clip of a wacky bit.

Even stranger was hearing that the Calgary Jack is doing the hoary old "Don't Say Hello" cash call contest for the growing Jack-pot. It seems that U.S. Jacks are resistant to contests.

Jacks & DJ's

We've all heard the liner on JACK station that explains the premise by saying, "we're like an iPod on shuffle". Well, a JACK without some degree of interaction or personalities will be like an iPod on shuffle WITH COMMERCIALS.

Not saying they should have the standard, round-the-clock full-blown personality presentation and IMHO the approach with personalities might need to be as unusual as the entire idea behind Variety Hits.

If I thought Jack in Chicago were programmed better (my opinion), add personalities for certain dayparts. The attitude on Jack is what turns me off from the station, plus a narrow playlist, and a station that plays 15 minutes of commercials in a row. At least Nine FM airs a total of 9 minutes spread out in 3 3 minute breaks. I don't remember how many commercial breaks Jack has, but as it stands, I won't listen to Jack in Chicago. I like the interaction on a station, and the way I see it, Jack FM will be nothing but an iPod with lots of commercials.

Jack in Chicago is playing 15 spots-in-a-row? No kidding? How often? If that is really what they're doing, it'll kill them.

Especially since every monthly ratings trend since they flipped has steadily gone up.

Actually the ratings went down slightly from the last book. The Summer ratings come out tomorrow and we'll see if they remained low, flat from the Spring book, which had mostly oldies listeners, or actually went up. The Summer P1's were down slightly, and the P2's were the same as the P1's. Only tomorrow will we know where Jack shows up in the summer ratings. We'll also know where Nine FM shows up. I know Nine FM won't go up much since they're on suburban signals, but I don't think ratings really matter for that station since they're independent and Jack is run by Infinity Broadcasting and better hope the station makes money to satisfy Wall Street.

no, actually the monthly 25-54 trends have been in a steady climb. We're not talking useless 12+ ratings, we're only talking the numbers that count.

WJMK is not playing 15 min. of commercials in a row, it's 2 6 or 7 minute stops around 15 and 45 past the hour.

In Toronto, Cananada they DO NOT. )-:
Here's a link: www.925jackfm.com

They also have no news, weather, traffic(important for morning and afternoon drive) also, three E's absent. (not including howard Cogan's voice over...even then, it's weak, and lacks True LOCAL Toronto feel.)
