SHOULD ME-TV CONVERT THIS-TV AFFILIATES TO ME-TV?

With only 3 affiliates, I think ME-TV should consider converting their THIS-TV
subs to ME-TV.

Given the choice I think 93% of viewers would pick ME-TV over B grade movies.

ME is a much stronger concept than THIS will ever be. If they don't do it, ME-TV will
struggle for years to reach the affiliate level of THIS. Competition from Antenna-TV
should only make the road even more difficult.

I have seen ME-TV and it is very enjoyable (similar to what TV-LAND once was).

I would personally vote for ME-TV over both THIS and RTV. RTV is totally worthless (from a programming and technical point of view) and THIS from a programming aspect.

Seriously, gregg75, calm down. MeTV is not announcing new affiliates for a few more weeks, from what I'm hearing.

Also, 93% is an awfully specific number to blindly make up off the top of your head. What leads you to believe it would be that high, aside from your personal fascination with subchannel networks?

And I'm sure violation of all their programming contracts with local stations would not go over well. No conversion will be forthcoming.

Hey Trip, How are ya I have a question? What about the newset tv channel Antenna TV Network is there any shot that Tallahassee Florida will pick up?

I have no idea. I've got no inside sources for Antenna TV or MeTV.

I think 93% would pick older sitcoms over a movie like "The Day The Water Came"
which the've never heard of before. You think what you THINK, I think what I think.

I am INTERESTED in sub-channels but not FASCINATED. This is a discussion board, isn't it?
I'm here to discuss.

They could always ask stations to switch when their contracts are up........many, but not all
might take them up on it.

I BELIEVE THEIR ANNOUNCEMENT SOON WILL BE FOR SOMETHING LIKE 2 MORE
STATIONS. If they pull out a list of 25 stations, I will be totally shocked.

If MeTV is so much stronger than This TV, then it will have no trouble adding affiliates. They don't need to kill off the rather successful This TV in order to do it. Why would they even do that? Why kill one revenue stream at the expense of another when you can have both without any extra trouble?

They're launching MeTV in the same way they launched This TV. This TV launched with only a few affiliates and slowly grew over the course of many months, and has a very strong lineup of affiliates. MeTV will do the same, I have no doubt in my mind.

I have no issue with discussion, but it would be nice if it had some basis in reality. Some companies may choose to drop This TV for MeTV, but it won't be because of Weigel "converting" them to MeTV affiliates.

On the other hand, I think the interest in THIS-TV is drying up. THIS was probably the first
idea they came up with and they went with it, ME-TV is a far better idea (in my opinion).

As more competition comes to sub channels, some are sure to suffer. Stations probably
thought THIS was a good idea, and I did also......then when I actually saw THIS, I wasn't
very impressed. I'd rather watch classic reruns instead.

The only competition THIS really had was Retro TV, maybe that's why stations signed up.
Wasn't there a Whitehouse or something similar to THIS.......I'm not sure if they are
even around any more? I doubt THIS will ever be totally gone. TUFF-TV only has about 7
affiliates and that doesn't seem to bother them. But, they are a part of RTV.

i like this-tv.i like the movies on tv all day.i know they have short programs in the earlier mornings but i am not an early riser.

i know it is hit or miss on wether any are good but when it is hit it is real good.

White Springs TV, but it was all public domain. I don't know if it's still around or not, I thought it was being shut down to launch something else. Not sure on that.

Stations are still adding This TV, so I don't think interest has dried up. I'm not much of a movie person, but I've found things to watch on This from time to time. I do wish they'd put The Outer Limits in more accessible time slots, as it's one of my favorite shows.

I've only seen 2 movies I liked on THIS-TV since I got the station back in the spring of '09 - Getting Even with Dad with that Culkin kid from Home Alone (I won't even attempt to spell his first name) and Ted Danson. And the other movie I liked was She-Devil. I only like that movie because I'm a Roseanne Barr fan.

I think however that COMCAST is picking up WCCT Channel 20.2 OTA because I notice drop-outs in the audio. (And I know it's not because of swear words being edited out because I've noticed the drop-outs during commercials too).

Ever since ThisTV became available in my area after WFGX-TV became available in my broadcast area after it began broadcasting from a new tower, I have seen programs I had not seen in years ("Inspector Gadget" and "Sonic Underground", even though ThisTV has a limited supply of episodes from both series) and programs I would have never seen if it were not for ThisTV ("The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", the TV series rather than four movies made from parts of the series, which consists of 52 episodes). It's nice to have more animated cartoon series on broadcast TV and ThisTV and the Retro Television Network are doing a good service for cartoon lovers.

MeTV launched pretty quickly (though it was in the works for a long time), so it's no surprise that they don't have a bazillion affiliates yet. Plus, it sounds as if they're going for quality rather than quantity (ruling out shady owners and the typical America One stations). Give 'em time. Rome wasn't built in a day, y'know.

There is room for subchannel networks out there. A typical HDTV outlet can support 1-2 more, while a standard def indy station can do up to 4 more. WCIU in Chicago is a good example of this. Plus, there's quite a few indy channels looking for inexpensive programming for main channels.

Network-owned stations don't seem to be too keen on adding third-party subchannel affiliations (NBC, ABC and ION have their own), but there are many station owners out there that are friendly to the concept. And the time seems to be right for more of these services. They do offer a nice package to sell to advertisers.

THIS has great coverage across the country. Actually, I just got them in my market this past weekend and am enjoying it. Interest is not "drying up"....they can only affiliate with so many new stations until they are in most markets. They are doing well, IMO. Hopefully they will tap in to some more movie libraries in the future, I'm sure that has been considered. Coverage has likely been, and may still be their biggest priority since launch. I think an OTA movie channel is a great concept- heck, it's free!

There is PLENTY of room for MeTV and THIS. I see no reason for broadcasters to need to sacrifice THIS for MeTV. Both are great concepts and Weigel knows what they are doing. Seeing RTV's condition, I wouldn't be surprised if they fold and a lot of their affiliates go with MeTV or even Antenna TV.
