If you've paid attention to the ratings lately, you've noticed that DC's Tropical rimshot Mega 92.7/94.3 is getting absolutely wrecked by El Zol 99.1.
In some casual listening at night, I've noticed that Mega is playing more reggaeton and even some English-language hip-hop and reggaeton remixes. During the day, Mega is still aiming for older listeners by playing the same Salsa-ish mix that El Zol is playing. Should Mega just give up on chasing El Zol and flip outright to the "Hurban" young Hispanic-targetted format that's been sweeping the country? It seems like the only way these terrible signals stand a chance is by differentiating themselves from 99.1.
I don't know if it would be enough though. The 92.7 and 94.3 signals just don't hit a lot of the area's Hispanic population. I have a feeling the stations will be sold soon, even if a flip to reggaeton does generate slightly higher ratings.
