Should MIX go current dance?

I will start this thread again (since apparently someone posted a non-nicety in here).

Basically, with all of the troubles that the CBS Radio owned stations in New York are having ratings wise, some changes should happen.

I can only really lean on the dance music front (though CBS should go back to oldies and FNY should either go rock or do the talk...minus DLR) but on the trends with the way 'KTU fell and Mix remaining the same with their older leaning rhythmic stations, perhaps the time is right for one of these stations to go current dance.

I have always harped on 'KTU to do this since they do cover the dance format in a wide spectrum (old and some new) and have been the veteran station (10 years). Yet everytime this happens, 'KTU just stays stagnantly the same...until Vic Latino's show. Yet, with Mix not getting any sort of growth with their format, I think it's time for CBS to consider leaning more currents. Party 105.3 out in Long Island PROVES that with the right blend of music, current dance as a format works!

What do you all think? And please, opinions about the format...not the people that listen to it since I had to retype this.

My preference would be for KTU to go all current as that would make the most logical sense but I have given up on the idea after years of wishing!

MIX, KTU, makes no difference at this point. The classic dance battle in New York is ridiculous!

I cannot believe that one of them has not gone current!
It boggles my mind...

Regardless of whether you like dance music or not, it makes no sense to have two stations spinning I feel love by Donna Summer all day!!
______________

WNEW-FM ("Mix/102.7") is a major underperformer in the New York market. There's only enough room for yet another dance station like another WKTU. Who knows. 102.7 has missed the boat between "Hot Talk", the two "Blinks", the "Christmas" stunt and now classic disco. Something wrong with this scenario. I mean, here is New York City, Market #1. A full-powered FM station that has anemic ratings book after book. I know that Tony is very vocal about having the "ultimate" dance music station in the market. I hope he gets his wish. Unfortunately, I just don't think that there is going to be that "ultimate" dance station in New York City anytime soon. At least not on 102.7. Don't get me started on 101.1 FM, the late "'CBS-FM". It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that dumping WCBS-FM's oldies format was probably one of the most idiotic programming decisions in modern radio history. Dig those outstanding "Jack" ratings! And WFNY.... well, there goes another wasted full-powered FM signal. I could see 92.3 returning to a "K-Rock" type of format OR (and Tony might agree with this), (possibly) a dance formatted station just like the REAL original 92.3/WKTU.

I just get the feeling that these three FM stations (listed above) are becoming loss leaders. Based upon past performance, one could only wonder why.

HD2 current dance

Maybe it would be a good idea to put that IBUZ to good use and put a current dance format on the HD2. Then we'll have another great Internet radio station, and Mix can boast that it is New York's real dance music leader.
______________

I love Disco but two Dance Classic stations is dumb. KTU has been around longer and I wish they would mix up select Hip Hop, Disco, and New Dance music. I gave up listening to them because the current format is too disjointe to me. It is not exciting to me, right now.

102.7 should go another direction. I'm afraid they won't be loyal to the format. The CBS change shows me this company (CBS) could care less for their audience. They should have kept the oldies on 101.1.

I aggree. We need to have them play all new cutting edge Dance, house, and new freestyle songs.

Now Tony, lets say this actually happens. Who would benefit more from WNEW going current? NEW or KTU??

OK here comes my rant......... KTU is not the KTU of the good old days. First off, when you play 'Hotel California' on a station that is supposed to be dance orientated you tend to turn on your listeners. I mean the reason we listen to KTU is to pump up some beats(fast pace dance, new and old)... after all they call themselves "the beat of New York" and when you play something as different as that... it kills us as loyal KTU listeners. Am I right???????

I also think that Diane Prior is not the type of personality you would want to have on a dance station. Don't get me wrong she is a good on air personality but she should be on an AC type station. You all know that if you listen during the daytime, it doesn't really sound like a dance station. She tends to play songs like Luther Vandross, Heatwave (Always & Forever), etc. Its like KTU is going for an older audience during the daytime. Now when Broadway Bill Lee and Vic Latino come on, they are perfect for KTU as is Jewelz.

Opinions are totally welcome...

KTU is simply all over the board and trying to appeal to everyone. Their sound is simply stale! I can't bear it during it's day parts.
.......and people used to say BLINK was unfocused.

KTU may bill but it's listenership is declining and they no longer create a buzz among dance fans or New York.

One thing I can't bear is seeing the word "its" violated with extraneous apostrophes multiple times in one message... but at least I can bear listening to WKTU during its (possessive of "it") dayparts. It's (contraction of "it is") no worse than CD 101.9 playing George Michael's "Father Figure" or The Police's "Every Breath You Take" and calling it "Smooth Jazz".

It's a common mistake to not use punctuation in its proper form.

Thanks for the punctuation lesson even those this is a radio board.
I do know the rules pertaining to the it and it's apostrophe usage but often when hastily making posts or writing emails, punctuation and spelling fall by the way side. Obviously this is your pet peeve. Get over it.
My pet peeve, KTU~I post about it on the radio board because I'm on topic and don't like it.

I still feel the music scene is currently the problem, NOT the stations. Dance music right now is not exactly creating a ton of chart toppers to keep a dance station buzzing.

If KTU / Clear Channel could sell the current dance audience, I'm sure theyd they'd be all over it. I just don't think their is currently much of a general appeal to dance music like there was in the 90's. There is definately a lot less main stream artists that gave KTU its sound. Mainstream is dominated by hip hop right now... everything cycles, if KTU / Clear Channel holds on, they will be the best bet for more current dance, when the scene / industry produces more mainstream dance hits again!
