Question- Does Rush still get good ratings???? Is it time for him to go?? I know Hannity is pretty hot these days but what about rush?

Rush's act is getting old and tired (as is he), but he's still the 800-lb gorilla of talk radio. His credibility has been hurt by his recent medical and legal problems, plus he's getting as bad as Hannity when it comes to spewing Republican Party talking points. He used to criticize both Bushes when they went against his conservative ideals, but he no longer does this. This also hurts his credibility as a conservative.
But his biggest problem is that he's no longer as entertaining as he used to be. He seems to be getting a bit bitter now. Agree or disagree with him on the issues, at least he was a good talk show host in years past. Now he's just another party mouthpiece. There are too many of those on both sides of the political aisle already.
But KFYI can't survive without him. He's the primary reason for 550 to exist (as is Jim Rome on XTRA 910). The local hosts either seem tired of the daily grind (Barry Komando), are totally uninformed to the point of being ridiculous (Bruce Jacobs), or lack local credibility due to the fact that they don't live here (Joe Crummy).

And since we've been pounding on that "Crummey" PM drive host recently, it's of note that Joe had a "what I did on my summer vacation" piece in Don Barrett's LARadio.com on Friday--in which he mentions arriving back in El-Lay on July 4 and getting home to the hills above Studio City in time to see the fireworks. (Cue the Nearly Bald One's "awwwww" SFX.) ;D
Seeing that FYI is #1 12+ from 10a-3p, I'd say Hannity is doing just as much as Rush, for a lower fee.
Yes, and they're also #1 in certain demos... also, if 12 year olds are listening to Sean Hannity, wouldn't you imagine a lot more 52 year olds are as well?
I doubt that too many kids under 18 (if any at all) are listening to any show on KFYI. And since 54 is the oldest age of the so-called "money" demo, if I were running Clear Channel I'd be concerned that 550 will eventually go the way of 620 and 1230 into geezer-world.KJCB said:

The Rush fee will do him in, eventually. Even in smaller markets, stations are paying more than enough to hire a local host and a producer and put on a good show - and you carry no network spots.
Questions is for each market - where would he go? Here's one for some thought - if you operated an FM talk station that was airing, say Boortz and Clark Howard, would you make a change if Rush were available?

The number of FM (or AMs for that matter) running Clark Howard are negligible to begin with.
