Should the new WPHT PD create a in-house news department?

Should the new WPHT PD create a news department and for 1210 to have their own news/sports anchors and reporters in house to broadcast the news, without getting it from a service, like it is set up now? Personally, I think it should happen. there needs to be a second option for radio news in Philly. 1210 needs to be a full service station again, like it was with WCAU.

The short answer is No. WPHT has as a sister station KYW 1060 with the largest radio news department between NYC and Washington, plus the KYW-TV 3 news staff, so that would be a waste of money. You just use those KYW folks to do any local newscasts on 1060, 1210, 610, and 94.1.

Julius, remember radio is a business. CBS Radio is out to make money, just as any other corporation. Back in the day when there was a WCAU AM/FM 1210/98.1 you can bet that they had one news team to cover news for both AM/FM. Why should it be different now, just because they have different calls. Why would WPHT want to compete with its KYW brand for news. Instead WPHT promotes KYW 1060 by using their news team on 1210. Essentially you get a news capsule on 1210 sandwiched between the talk shows/sports. If you want the deeper more detailed version, tune in to 1060 KYW Newsradio.

The listeners to 1210 believe that the opinions expressed by the hosts are 'news' so why waste the expense.
