Should these titles be on MY'S Playlist?

Bon Jovi, Go-Go's, Bruce, Laura Brannigan, Hoobastank, INXS and other Pop/Rock artists, some being played on sister 104.5. I thought this was a Rhythmic outlet. Should these songs be in their rotation. Are they going for a more general blend of music, just what are they doing over there, some non-Rhythmic titles they are playing, are not too hard to swallow and have not been heard in this area since they were hot.

Wait. They ARE playing those artists? Or do you think they should be added? I say no to Bon Jovi, and Bruce, and Laura Brannigan. I forget what song Hoobastank sang. But yeah, I wouldn't mind hearing some 80's stuff. If your gonna put the Go Go's in, might as well add groups like Duran Duran, Thompson Twins, English Beat, ABC, XTC to name a few...

They ARE playing those artists and many more popish/rockish tunes that I forgot at the moment. It seems odd when I cruise by them and hear those songs, when they first signed on it was mostly Rhythmic, now the playlist is opening up to a 50 percent Modern Rock/Pop outlet, don't get me wrong, they still play Rhythmic cuts but not in heavy rotation.

I would like to hear "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo. Nothing wrong with it!

Nothing says "Feel the energy!" like moldy old Kajagoogoo! (Are they still using that positioner?)

I've heard them play Livin' on an Prayer. Generally, I'd say no to Bon Jovi, but that song seems to be a big hit at weddings, so it probably fits the general "lite party" image the station is going for.

Again, it depends on the song. "Vacation," I think is thythmic. And, what's more rhythmic than a song called "we got the beat." :)

No.

Laura Brannigan
I don't think "Gloria" is a rock song. I think it fits.

Hoobastank
"The Reason"? Absolutely not.

Some of their songs have a dance-y beat. I think they've been described as a "dance rock" band. Most of their bigger hits probably fit the format OK.

They're playing The Hits for adult females. That's all that matters. Trying to get them to not flip over to Ben. Trying to get the playlist bulked up enough to become an all-day at-work station.

Are any of these titles?? I think its a song by song call.

Well, its far from being MY 106.1!!!! I wouldn't listen to that crap, but I am subjected to it on a daily basis as a co-worker controls (in Stalin-istic fashion) the radio. UGHHHHHHHHH! When she's sick is when I can load up the ol' Ipod, then I play DJ.

What this city could use is a classic alternative station. Like the stuff DRE would play in its heyday.

Everyone knows this thread will be moot when 106.1 switches to all-Christmas in two weeks.

My first reaction to this post was that it was crazy. Then I thought about it for a second and realized that Clear Channel is big into Christmas music nationwide, and that, now that Sunny 104.5 is gone, 106.1 is the closest they have to an AC in Philly. I hope it doesn't flip. I kinda like it, despite being outside the demo (I'm the right age but the wrong gender).

More on the original topic, I think 106.1 needs to stay upbeat. A station that says "move to the music" that does TV commercials where the entire concept is women shaking their asses cannot play Hoobastank's "The Reason." That is such a downer song. The other songs/artists in the OP are generally dance-able stuff you'd hear at either a wedding or a club catering to a slightly older crowd, which is what this station is trying to emulate. Just because it has a guitar in it doesn't mean they shouldn't play it. Some 80s dance clubs (like "Culture Club" from the one time I went there) even play "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "Sweet Home Alabama."

I know all of you mentioned other stations in the area with the CHRISTmas formats, but we all must agree, nobody did it better than Sunny. So with that in mind, if CC puts that exact format on MY for the holidays, it would be well worth it and IMHO the best, which would make the other stations not even worth listening to for CHRISTmas music.

If they are planning to drop Whoopi from the mornings (as another thread discusses), that would be the perfect time to switch to the Christmas format. I agree totally that Sunny was the best when it came to holiday music, and using the Sunny songs on 106 would make sense.

The Sunny holiday format makes no sense for My 106.1. If their goal is to present generally upbeat music (some of the songs on their regular playlist notwithstanding--though that is most certainly an interesting discussion), the Carpenters warbling "Merry Christmas Baby" every sixty-three minutes won't cut it.

Continuing the topic, I heard "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen and "Before he Cheats" by Carrie Underwood on 106.1 this morning in the 9:00 hour. Talk about songs that don't fit the format. When I heard the first, I thought the station had flipped to Classic Rock.

"Women 25-34" is not a format. It's a target demo. You target the demo by having a consistent format. Those songs, while they may be popular with that demo, don't fit the format.
