Should this station be labeled as Rhythmic, or stay Urban as it currently is.

Urban station WZHT in Montgomery, Alabama.

They have put tracks into moderate-high rotation like "Lady Gaga - Bad Romance/Telephone", "Ke$ha - Tik Tok", "Katy Perry - California Gurls", "Taio Cruz - Break Your Heart", all Jason Derulo, Jay Sean, IYAZ, Justin Bieber tracks. Right now their spinning the Airplanes record by B.O.B instead of the one he sent out to Urban. However, they do still spin R&B tracks that most Rhythmics will not touch.

Do you think this station should stay labeled as Urban or be moved over to the Rhythmic panel.

Clear Channel's HOT 105.7 is Urban. Not sure what there doing adding those songs, but with Steve Harvey in the AM and Michael Long at nights I don't see Rhythmic. On the other hand 97.9 JAMZ is the real Hip-Hop choice while POWER 95.9/102.7 is also Urban and HOT's sister Magic 97.1 is Urban AC. The city only has 1 Top 40/Pop station.

Re: Should this station be labeled as Rhythmic, or stay Urban as it currently is

Judging from what they are playing, I wouldn't be surprised if WZHT shifts to Rhythmic down the road given the increased competition. WHHY, the lone Top 40/CHR in Montgomery and a former Rhythmic, might want to pay close attention.

Judging by the music added, Rhythmic.
Besides, rhythmic is the way to go these days, now that the hip hop era has come to an end and a new sound is currently becoming the next big thing. I'd say they should just be rhythmic - like Hot 97 in New York.

WZHT is obviously just another Clear Channel mainstream urban radio station that blurs the boundary. It might be playing those songs because there isn't a rhythmic station in the Montgomery market. However, it's clear WZHT "Hot 105" has seen better times back in the 1990s when they were a more balanced urban contemporary station with a blowtorch signal that could be heard as far north as Birmingham. It's so blah now...

HOT 105 reaches far east covering Tuskeegee and Auburn. Before CC added an Urban to Columbus, GA, HOT 105 was also making waves there too. They beat the competition so it'll stay Urban and STILL not stream.
