Should WCHE Flip To Talk?

In fairness, I am a semi-regular listener of WCHE 1520 via its webstream. Their homegrown talk programming is good, and blends well with its alternative rock format.

With that said and with all due respect, this is a case of opportunity knocking.

On the heels of the abrupt departure of WCOJ 1420, should its neighbor WCHE look into picking up some of the talk programming/personalities from WCOJ, and fill the void as West Chester's talk station?

Granted WCHE is a daytimer and may have some signal issues. But it's possible they'd like to get some of the advertisers that WCOJ has had.

Your thoughts.

Randy just recalled how some WCHE advertisers were wooed away by WCOJ, with the promise that their spots could be heard by more people.

You reap what you sow, I guess...

I haven't heard the station, but I did look at the WCHE website...I like what I see. If nothing else, I get the distinct impression that the people involved dig what they're doing. That counts for a lot in this day and age.

I'd love to get my hands on an operation like this; pay me a liveable salary, get me a couple of guys to do news, and I'll make said station into a viable community presence (assuming it isn't already)... ;D

YES, well to an extent. I listened to WCHE when we had David Shur and Jay Shur in the morning. I will always have Davie in my memories and in my hart as one of Chester County's Greatest Radio Pioneer. Now, I'm not saying that Randy and Jay in the morning are not fun but JT over at WCOJ, well he was making a good run for WCHE monies. Hmmm...Maybe JAY RANDY and NOW JT in the morning. I think JT would hit that rock'n format. I always liked listening to G Gordon Liddy on WCHE and The afternoon drive talk show. When WCHE had talk on the air I listen to it all day at work. Now the rock format is off at the office. Look at downtown West Chester. People in West Chester are going to College or Working professionals AKA Lawyers, bankers, small busness owners and county officials. WCHE has three choices: 1)Stay firm on what they are already doing, 2)go all local talk or do a local Radio1045 with local bands for the college students or maybe News at the top of every hour with local produced veriety shows durring the day with music talk and fun all local.

WCHE gets big chops here for original programming. I'd do their kind of talk all day. Get folks involved and get into the street. The big problem they have is being a daytimer on a clear with a monster fulltime signal. I've noticed that WWKB really chews them up during afternoon critical hours; betting the same happens during morning drive. They'd probably need another power increase-perhaps to 5 or 10 kW-to at least be usable in the drivetime segments they will have during the winter months. And I haven't even touched on the loud 1 kHz heterodyne from the 2,000,000 watter in Saudi Arabia on 1521. That even pounds hell out of Buffalo at night...
