Does anybody REALISTICALLY think radio as an art/business form can ever re-create what it once was? If not, maybe we should all get out now? Is the medium relegated to traffic and weather every 15 minutes or not?
Personally, I truly doubt we'll ever see radio as it was. In fact, I expect the medium to be gone within 20 years...relegated to a few scattered pirate stations around the country who think they're providing a public service when in fact they're just empty mouthpieces.
OK, that's my opinion, now who's gut guts! ;D

Radio today is already "nothing like it once was". There are no longer scripted dramas or comedies. The days of Amos and Andy, The Jack Benny Program, The Bickersons, The Shadow, and all the other great radio programs of yesteryear were destroyed by television, and radio made the transition to simply playing popular songs with a disc jockey talking in between records.
So, it looks like the format that replaced radio of the Golden Age of radio will also be replaced eventually. I don't know what will replace it, but replaced it will be.

or has it....? in 1979 every tenneage kid listened to radio. remember there were 3 channels on tv. even most 20 and 30 somethings in 1979 listened to the radio. today i dont know of anyone outside this board that listens to radio for music. most people say the same thing. why listen to the radio they play the same songs over and over again. fm radio for me anyway is dead. there is no reasob to listen anymore. especially in my hometown. citadel and clear channel own everything. and aside from 1 variety hits format there is nothing on.is the variety hits station ok. yea. but they talk to much. they have opie and anthony in the morning and no music in the morning..and the stopsets are waayyyyyyyy to long...so radio people enjoy your medium. at least someone will..

I can't speak for the stations where you grew up... but I will tell you that in our area WCOH, WMKJ, WMGP, and WGSE did all of those things I talked about. Before I owned them and after.

but they said the same thing 30 yrs ago, too----a lot of this sure feels like people who live in the past and DON'T WANT TO move along with the times
if other businesses were like so many of U want radio to be:
** there would be 10 cable channels
** the Reliant K would be the cool car
** the Commodore 64 would be the high-tech computer of choice
** u would have to drive 75 miles to hit the nearest walmart
** Elvis would still be alive and using a walker to get on stage and perform
here's the thing--- the past CANNOT EVER BE CHANGED.......it's etched in time forever
GOOD NEWS: we can all influence TODAY and THE FUTURE
so..............if u don't like the radio---don't listen (and don't whine to us about how imperfect it is compared to **BACK IN THE DAY**)

right......xcept BITCHING ABOUT IT WON'T GET IT FIXED
complaining is empty hot air if u don't offer solutions..............and the insecure ex-dj crowd does just that-----piss & moan with zero ideas or solutions
so............unless u can offer POSITIVE SOLUTIONS, PUH-LEEEZE go listen to satellite or your iPod

Sure it will.
By making our arguments here in a sincere and facutal manner, we can show radio bigshots that radio has got to change.
Never underestimate the power of the little seeds we are planting, grasshopper.

Joe, when did you 'own' these stations? Just curious.

Do a Google news search for today, ace.
