Should WMTR have dropped oldies completely?

Since last July WMTR distinguished itself from WCBS-FM by playing some pre-1964 music. In its new satellite format, the pre-Beatles hits were almost completely dropped. Since WCBS-FM can be heard in the WMTR listening area, I don't see the need for them to stay with oldies especially since the sound on FM is superior. Should WMTR have dropped oldies completely and flipped to country which does better in the suburbs? They would have the format to itself. I have heard reports that WCBS-FM does not come in well at times in Middlesex-Somerset counties due to interference from Philadelphia's B-101. There it may have made better sense to go to satellite oldies at WCTC.

I fully understand the WCTC move. Drving north to Metuchen, I can hear WCTC long before I can hear WCBS-FM. But WMTR? That does not make sense. The only advantages they had were the local hosts plus the pre-1964 music. Now, they have nothing.
